Speaking of strikers, we could do with this fella turning up to the party today...

Werner is the one player in this team that can stretch our back line.
He did it in the Champions League final against Manchester City.
He'll get chances. In the Premier League he's fluffed them. This is different in a German shirt.

Germany boss Joachim Low, speaking to ARD: "We need depth up-front today and Timo Werner offers a lot of qualities there. He has tremendous pace and can hurt defences that way.
"Leon [Goretzka] has been in great shape these last few days and [İlkay Gündoğan] had a few problems, so it was obvious we'd make this change."

"Three Lions" belting out around Wembley and a rousing chorus from England fans but the German supporters do not seem too unnerved by it as they wave their flags in time to the music.
Interesting to see how Timo Werner fares here. Chelsea's striker misfired on many occasions this season but ended with a Champions League winners' medal and even when things were not going for him his attitude was spot on and his head never dropped.

TheBrightonBard: The knight costumes, the banter, the rain. Oh I especially miss home on days like today. Oddly enough, no one here in Oklahoma seems to be that bothered. Come on England!
Anon: Watching the game in the belly of the beast in Berlin! Bring it home boys!!!

David Seaman
Former Arsenal and England goalkeeper on BBC One
One of the memories [of Euro 96] is losing. The better memories are Scotland and the Spain shootout. There's no better feeling than saving the deciding penalty.
[Jordan Pickford] has had a good tournament. He's made at least two or three big saves. He's looked composed and in control and I like that.
He's playing really well and he's adding to the defence.
He's made mistakes for Everton but he's never made one for England. He recovers well too, you have to be mentally tough to be a goalkeeper and he is.
Manuel Neuer, he's a proper keeper. He's done it at a standard and done it brilliantly. He's the world number one.
Any England win will do. I'm desperate for it!

Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One
I was sat watching the Euro 96 final hoping and praying that Jurgen didn't score so I could at least go home with something in the Golden Boot trophy. Thankfully he didn't and the trophy was enough.

Jurgen Klinsmann
Former Germany head coach on BBC One
I missed the semi-final with a calf injury but was back for the win in the final. We will never forget that moment, getting the trophy from the Queen.
We definitely took Football's Coming Home as our song as well. During the tournament and when we were flying home.

Guess what tune is on at Wembley right now? Yep. That one.

I'm super excited. The fans are going crazy. They're enjoying the moment. The VTs, us here, all of the media, we talk about the past and we talk about the history. It's important for the players to forget history. Gareth Southgate says history is irrelevant to this squad. They've got to make their own history and do not let this opportunity pass by.

I keep looking at that footage when Gazza hit that far post and I still think he's going to get there. Great memories, great times, it just wasn't to be.

It's a very hard game to call. If Germany turn up then we'll be in for a right game. England let's be honest, they've done ok, they haven't been outstanding. They've had moments. They didn't play well against Scotland, they did ok against Croatia and the Czech Republic was about basically Czech Republic wanted to finish second so I didn't read anything into that.
It's a good test for England. There's a big prize ahead, whoever wins this will fancy their chances to get to the final. It's a great opportunity for England but we know Germany are a very dangerous side. Yes, we could see England turn it on today and win comfortably, but we know if Germany turn up we're in for a very hard game.

German football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live
You can't help but feel excited when you got Wembley and you feel that maybe this Germany team will connect with its own history and will find inspiration in some of the old stories. That's the reason why I think we have more than usual invoked past triumphs in the run up to this game.
Also a reflection of maybe not so much confidence in the presence right now. when you look back a lot that doesn't really perhaps tell you a lot about where you are at the moment that you feel like looking back is more inspirational than looking in front of you.
BBC One just had to show it didn't they? I'm still certain Gazza is going to score.

No Phil Foden, no worries - even for Alex and Sam, who have his name on the back of their shirts.
"To be honest the only thing I wanted was for Bukayo Saka to start," said Sam. "He was absolutely fearless against the Czech Republic and our best player."
Alex agrees, adding: "It doesn't really matter who plays on the wings, we're going to win this game in the middle."
