  1. 'Trippier and Walker have to be disciplined'published at 16:01 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I am a little bit concerned from Germany's left hand side. I like Trippier and Walker especially in that three at the back.

But if you look at the runs that Werner makes and Gosens, who's had like 10 goals and 10 for Atalanta. He gets forward at every opportunity, Trippier and Walker have to be very disciplined today.

  2. 'Big opportunity for Werner to show up today'published at 16:00 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

    Raphael Honigstein
German football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

Timo Werner is not expected because Serge Gnabry has always been present for Joachim Low. Whether that's a bit of an injury because he has had some muscle problems, or a tactical decision to use the pace of Timo Werner we don't know, but it's an interesting one because Werner's form has suffered as you know from the Premier League and it hasn't really picked up in a Germany shirt either. It's a big opportunity for him to show up today.

  3. Expected change from Englandpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

    Karen Carney
Former England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Germany would have expected us to go to this formation if I am honest. If you look at the press conferences both teams have alluded to that they are not going to go at it, they are going to be cautious.

We know the German sides have played this shape since the start of the tournament. Gareth Southgate has been preparing this formation for the latter part of the tournament for 18 months now.

So, England's wing-backs cancel out Gosens and Kimmich, Rice holds while Phillips get at Kroos and plays deep playmaker, Kane draws the German defence forward, allowing Sterling and Saka to get in behind.

    Simple, right?

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

Gareth Southgate has gone for the 3-4-3 that was expected as Bukayo Saka retains his place in attack.

Kieran Trippier is in for Jack Grealish in the only change from the win over the Czech Republic.

Mason Mount makes the bench but Ben Chilwell doesn't.

England XI: Pickford, Trippier, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw, Rice, Phillips, Saka, Kane, Sterling

There are two changes to the Germany side who scraped past Hungary in dramatic fashion.

Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane drop out, alongside Serge Gnabry.

Thomas Muller, Leon Goretzka and Timo Werner come into the side.

Germany XI: Neuer, Rudiger, Ginter, Hummels, Kimmich, Havertz, Kroos, Werner, Goretzka, Gosens, Muller.

  7. 'It has all the hallmarks of a cagey game'published at 15:54 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

    Raphael Honigstein
German football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

I hope especially after watching the games last night, that an England team that is better than Germany in my view, might still allow us the opportunity and maybe a chance for a small upset like we saw yesterday.

It's so difficult to predict. I think Germany want to control the game but with the ball, and that in itself gives a chance for England because if Germany don't have their passing game slick enough and accurate enough, then those spaces can be exploited. Then suddenly with England starting these games so strongly, that's when Germany could be vulnerable. If we do see an early game then everything will open up.

It has all the hallmarks of a cagey game with Southgate possibly changing his formation to mirror Germany's set-up, that in itself is a fairly cautious move you could say. But at the same time Germany are not very good at defending. We've already conceded five goals in three games, so even if we're trying to be cagey we might no succeed so I think it should be pretty entertaining.
