Ukraine boss Andriy Shevchenko: “We clearly understand who we are playing tomorrow. England is one of the best teams in Euro 2020, one of the most balanced and has wonderful players.
“We understand that the opponent is the favourite but we also know our strengths. We have already shown in this tournament our character and the principles of our game, and we will stick to them.
"This is the foundation of our team. I know we are facing a difficult game, but my players have character."

Max Mladenovic: On the morning of the Germany game I realised I'd got my pants on inside out. Decided not to risk jinxing the boys so left them as they were. Back on (washed!) inside out today.

I was a non-believer in having two defensive midfielders in Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice.
They've proved me wrong.

The last time these two teams faced was back in 2013, when England were held to a goalless draw in their World Cup qualifier in Ukraine.
Frank Lampard won his 100th England cap that night.
But they last met at a major tournament in Euro 2012. England won 1-0 in the group stages, thanks to a Wayne Rooney goal, despite some goalline controversy.
Ukraine's only win over England (1-0) came in 2009 in World Cup qualifying.

Gareth Southgate says it is "good" England are not playing at Wembley as it would have been hard to replicate the atmosphere of the Germany win.
The game is being played in Rome's Stadio Olimpico and it's England's first away from home.
"To have a different focus, different surroundings, a different challenge it's good for us," said Southgate.

The confidence comes from your team-mates. We've spoken about England teams in the past, there was never that attention to detail in creating an environment where players can flourish.
They're aiming to win the Euros, but they're also aiming for something bigger - which is a legacy, inspiring people and the country.

In 2016, Andriy Shevchenko - Ballon d'Or winner, Ukraine legend, failed parliamentary candidate - would take control of the national team and those personality traits displayed as a player would again come to the fore.
Now, five years on, one of the 21st Century's great players is leading his country at a major tournament as a manager and has guided them to a first European Championship quarter-final.

You've got to give the manager great credit for creating such a great team spirit.
We had a great team spirit in Euro 96 and I think Gareth Southgate has borrowed some of that.
There seems to be a buzz and a happy feeling in the England squad. We haven't always had that with England teams.

The crowd is building in the main fan zone here in Kyiv. There’s two giant screens on the side of a shopping centre and fans have spread blankets on the street below to watch the match. There are even beanbags and deck chairs, it’s all very civilised. Many people are dressed in yellow and blue - the national colours - and draped in flags.
But there are women in vyshyvanki, too - Ukrainian embroidered shirts - and the odd man in a stick-on Cossack beard and hat. They know they’re going into this game with England as the underdogs, but there’s a lot of national pride here - and people keep telling me they believe they can win.

Simon Gleave, head of sports analysis, Nielsen's Gracenote: "England have around 70% chance of winning this quarter-final tie against Ukraine according to Gracenote's forecast.
"If Ukraine were to pull off a surprise win, it would be in the top-5 knockout phase shocks of all-time in the competition. This list is already headed by an England match, the 2-1 second round defeat by Iceland at Euro 2016."
