Wimbledon is famously a football-free zone, but that hasn't stopped plenty of fans arriving in England shirts, hats and other paraphernalia.

You can spot a Gazza Italia '90 replica in the background here, with Elliot Gargan and Emily Caplan, from north-west London, wearing more contemporary shirts.

The pair have tickets on Centre Court for the men's singles final between Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Italy's Matteo Berrettini.

"It does feel weird to be here wearing football shirts," says Elliot. "We're hoping for a good final, but a quick one so we can get to the pub in Fulham to watch the football."

Those thinking they could hang about and watch the Euro 2020 on Wimbledon's big screen were sadly mistaken. The All England Club will not be showing the game.

On what it means to be English today, Emily says: "Put it this way, we've listened to Three Lions three times before we got here today."

Elliot adds: "We thought we'd let the Italian win the tennis and we can the football."

    England 2-0 Germany (recap)

Noooooo. It looked like Germany would equalise when Thomas Muller was put clean through on goal after a Raheem Sterling mistake.

Muller can't miss can he? Yes, he can and does. He drags his shot wide much to the relief of Sterling and disbelief of Germany fans.

  9. 'We know we've got to deliver for you'published at 13:19 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Italy v England (20:00 BST)

Fast forward to the current Gareth Southgate and the England boss has a quick message for fans as kick-off inches closer and closer.

"Hi there, just wanted to take the time to say thank you to everybody for the incredible support we've received throughout this tournament," he said.

"We hope that we've represented you in the right way, we hope that you've enjoyed watching us play. I'm very grateful to all of the players and the incredible staff I've got with me that we've been able to get to our first final for 55 years.

"But of course we know now that we've got to deliver for you. We'll be doing everything we can and your support and energy has given us a huge lift, and I know it will on Sunday."

Typically measured sentiments from Southgate there. So much to admire.

    Italy v England (20:00 BST)

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

How is former England defender Matt Upson feeling this morning then?

"I was up early, did a bit of exercise, I think I've walked the dog about three times just pacing the garden, just keeping busy getting on with the day.

"It's everywhere, you pick up a newspaper, turn on a TV, what it's like for the players in a hotel room or going down for breakfast I wonder if the TV is on and everyone is looking at it or you're just trying to zone out focus on the job at hand and keep it simple and its just another game.

"Myself, I'm just trying to get rid of some nervous energy."

Harry Kane hadn't scored in England's group games and the pressure was on going into this last-16 tie. Some were questioning his place in the side so, could he deliver against Germany as England tried to end a 55-year wait for a knockout tie victory over the old foe?

Well, despite "a goal which looked on a plate served warm" he failed to take a chance to put Southgate's men in front.

  18. It is coming home 100% - Lingardpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Italy v England (20:00 BST)

Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard, who missed out on making Gareth Southgate's squad despite an impressive loan spell at West Ham during the second half of the 2020-21 season, says he can "feel" an England win coming tonight.

"All the boys who were left out are still fans and we want England to win," Lingard told the Lions' Den on the England YouTube channel.

"I'd have loved to be at the Euros but I have been resting, which is important, and training and I'm ready to get back.

"I'll stay at home tonight and soak it up, maybe get a few people round. It is coming home 100%. I can feel it. Bring it home. Come on the boys, bring it home."

The Angel of the North was briefly seen to be backing England's football team - before police intervened.

The Three Lions' emblem was attached to the 60ft (20m) Sir Antony Gormley sculpture in Gateshead during the early hours of Saturday.

However, no sooner was it up, three officers arrived and demanded it be removed, citing safety concerns.

Ben Fada, a rope access specialist who was involved, said it was intended to raise a smile ahead of tonight's final.

He says it was "disheartening" to have to take the England badge down but he understood why police intervened.

"I think they're going to win and I'm going to be devastated because the Angel's not going to have a badge on it," he says. You can read more on this story here.
