Harry Maguire got a massive round of support from the Manchester United fans. He has been outstanding today. When you need your captain to step up and lead through that rocky period he stood up and was accountable. He got that wonderful goal, got himself an assist and has just been pure class.

It's been a very clinical, professional performance from Manchester United. It was a bit nervy in the opening 10 minutes when Tranmere were all over them but Harry Maguire stepped up with a wonderful strike and it just went on from there. It's just been a classy Manchester United performance.

  8. CLOSE!published at 62 mins

    Tranmere 0-6 Man Utd

Tahith Chong is caught napping a little by Connor Jennings and Tranmere break quickly through Morgan Ferrier on the left.

He gets away and only has the keeper to beat but his run takes him wide. He panics a little and ends up skewing his effort straight into the side-netting. Big chance!

There will be plenty of people saying it's only Tranmere. It was only Tranmere when they played Watford and came back to draw 3 all before beating them at Prenton park. This was a Watford rejuvenated by Pearson and in much better form than Utd.

Harry Maguire had the final say over who was taking that penalty.

He stepped in and gave the ball to 18-year-old Mason Greenwood, who sent Scott Davies the wrong way.

The Tranmere fans are still singing. It's all they have left now.

Andreas Pereira stepped up to take the penalty and Harry Maguire ran over and said: "No, it has to be Mason Greenwood."

I think that was more a signal from the manager to say that United need their striker to get on the scoresheet. He scuffed it but he has been a bit quiet today so he will be happy to get on the scoresheet.

That was a really nice build-up from United on the edge of the box before it was squeezed through to Tahith Chong.

He reacted quickest and used his pace to get there first.

Mason Greenwood celebrated behind the goal as fans throw toilet roll onto the pitch. He returned the favour.

    Clear as day!

Tahith Chong gets there first, pokes it past the keeper and is then brought down by Scott Davies.

Comfortable decision and the keeper gets a yellow card too.

You get the feeling this might be a defining year for the future of Manchester United. Sacking Ole, or a lack of serious and sensible investment into the squad over the next 12 months could (and should) kick-start some real anger towards our profit driven owners who are ruining this club

    Tom

United haven't put 5 past anyone since Fergie and that was a draw with West Brom so a bit of support should be given. Ole is building something and yes, plenty need to leave but give him time - we started with criticism and a Mark Robins goal before so back the man!

Brazil midfielder Fabinho, Dejan Lovren (captain for the day) and Divock Origi are among the senior players on duty. Mo Salah forms part of a very strong substitutes bench.

Sergio Romero has looked really comfortable on aerial balls. I know it is a different level of team perhaps, but if he keeps a clean sheet, is that something to talk about potentially?
