People talk about Phil Foden taking his opportunities but it is difficult when you are playing him out of position, so I feel for him. I would love to see him more in that central role. I have seen him time and time again and he can cause problems for the opposition.

You want Phil Foden in the middle as the creator and getting on the end of things. Early in the game we could see he was playing high on the left - the player that is crossing the ball. To utilise a player of this quality he wants to be playing in the areas he can do most damage.

Exactly right Mark. Both teams have to play on the pitch!

Mark Lynch: why is there a focus on how today will be tough for Man U? They've better players than tranmere, who are league 1 strugglers, they've got a much bigger squad, better coaching & medical facilities and tranmere played 24 hours later than them which went to extra time!

Tim Ream was on the wrong side [of Gabriel Jesus] and he knows. The way he walks off the pitch he looks devastated because he knows he has let his team down.

Scott Parker waited for every one of his players on the touchline to shake their hands before heading down the tunnel at half time.

Their captain has let them down and there's nothing they can do about it except work hard and try to create some magic.

The sending off was ridiculous [from Tim Ream's perspective]. Just let him have a shot and back your keeper.

    Simon Stone

The covers have been on the Prenton Park pitch to protect it from any rain that has fallen on Merseyside over the past 24 hours.

It is dry now and whilst the surface has been rolled, I am not convinced it will hold up once the players start running on it.

This really is an additional problem Manchester United could have done without today.

Angelino fizzes a ball in, looking for Gabriel Jesus. It's well cleared by Michael Hector at the near post.

The corner is aimed at Ilkay Gundogan but Fulham hoof it clear.

Fulham have a rare bit of possession in the City half as Steven Sessegnon feeds it into Ivan Cavaleiro in the corner.

But he's sloppy and his return pass to Sessegnon is intercepted by Angelino. Possession wasted.

I'm still not sure Bernardo Silva caught his shot for the goal as well as he could because the keeper got a hand to it. If he gets a hands to it then he has got to expect to save it, so he will be disappointed the goalkeeper.

Everything is very flat. The Etihad isn't full, there's not much of an atmosphere and City continue to pass it around under little pressure.

David Silva, lays it off to Angelino, whose cross is just about cleared by Stefan Johansen. There's a few appeals for a handball but VAR checks and decides, no.

If you are playing against 10 men you have to keep someone high up the pitch who you can try and get out to. If you haven't got a target you are never going to get out and at the moment they are not getting out at all.
