Scoring goals has been the problem for Fulham since Aleksandar Mitrovic has been out. You come to the Etihad and you are looking for guys who can move you up the pitch and take the game to Manchester City. You wonder if Fulham will have any players who can do that today.

Fulham scored a couple of wonder goals to beat Aston Villa in round three, and are in good shape at the top end of the Championship too.

But you know that Manchester City will put out a strong line-up as they continue their defence of the FA Cup, and it is hard to see Fulham getting close to them at Etihad Stadium.

    Prediction: 3-0

Man City v Fulham (13:00 GMT)

Fulham manager Scott Parker: "The main message from me to my players is go there with big courage and big heart, and a determination.

"If you go to places like the Etihad and play against teams like Man City with no real conviction and don't try to put your stamp on the game, nine times out of 10 you roll out of there with a loss.

"Let's go there with courage, let's have a belief about us, and let's try and put our stamp on it."

Croydon to Newcastle, 10 games, more than 1,400 miles - Jack Dormer and Alex Rowe contacted us on our live text yesterday to say they had been to a match in every round of the FA Cup this season!

There was only one question on everybody's minds: will they make the final?

I got in touch with them to ask and discuss their journey so far as they were travelling back from yesterday's goalless fourth-round draw between Newcastle United and Oxford United at St James' Park.

Man City v Fulham (13:00 GMT)

Injuries have been a hot topic in the Premier League recently, but it is also having an impact in the Championship following a hectic Christmas and New Year period.

This will be Fulham’s eighth game in the month since Boxing Day and they are feeling the effects. The Championship’s top scorer, Aleksandar Mitrovic, is out for several weeks with an ankle injury, while fellow attacker Aboubakar Kamara is unavailable and Anthony Knockaert is also ruled out.

Mitrovic’s tally of 18 means he has scored 43% of his team’s league goals this season and his absence will be a big blow to manager Scott Parker, particularly with the centre of Manchester City’s defence being their perceived weakness.

  13. Pitch 'no excuse' for Man Utdpublished at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2020

Tranmere v Man Utd (15:00 GMT)

Tranmere manager Micky Mellon told Manchester United they cannot use the poor pitch at Prenton Park as an excuse.

The pitch - which Tranmere share with Liverpool Women - has been heavily criticised.

"People get confused and think they've got to play on a different pitch. We'll play on the same pitch," said Mellon.

"What if it's windy? What if it's hailstones? Good players can adapt and adjust to anything, that's what you expect of them."

Man City v Fulham (13:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola: "The Carabao and FA Cup will be played, maybe we could cancel the replays, maybe there could be less games in the Championship for example, less teams in the Championship or the Premier League.

"I come here, you ask me a question and I was honest but I don't think [about] what they have to do because it's not my business. My business is to prepare my team day-by-day. When they decide these games, we do it."

    Shrewsbury v Liverpool (17:00 GMT)

    Guy Mowbray
    Match of the Day commentator

Shrewsbury at home to any top division side takes me back to being a kid again.

In the FA Cup fourth round of 1979, the Shrews beat Manchester City 2-0 , externalin a game played at the end of what then seemed a typically snowy winter week. Barely any grass on the pitch, a full-strength City side, David Coleman's commentary for Match of the Day…. how it's all changed.

The squad depths of the big teams and vastly improved playing surfaces make true cup shocks more of a rare occurrence today, with 'mix and match' line-ups from the Premier League clubs lessening the impact anyway.

OR….does it make them even more special when they do happen?

Shrewsbury beating Liverpool - that would be quite something at any time.

  18. Eight changes for City, no Mitrovic for Fulhampublished at 12:13 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2020

Man City v Fulham (13:00 GMT)

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola makes eight changes to the team which beat Sheffield United 1-0 in the league in midweek, with Nicolas Otamendi, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus the only players to keep their place. John Stones was expected to start after recovering from injury but he only makes the bench. Phil Foden, who started in the 4-1 third-round win over League Two Port Vale, is in.

If City do encounter any problems then Guardiola has quite the bench to call on, with Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne all among the substitutes.

Man City XI: Bravo, Cancelo, Garcia, Otamendi, Angelino, Gundogan, Silva, Foden, Bernardo, Mahrez, Jesus

Fulham manager Scott Parker, already without top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, leaves captain and influential midfielder Tom Cairney on the bench. There is a debut for defender Terence Kongolo, signed this month from Huddersfield, and Steven Sessegnon - brother of Tottenham’s Ryan - starts a match for the first time since 5 October. In all, Fulham make four changes from the goalless draw at Charlton in midweek.

Fulham XI: Rodak, Christie, Bryan, Hector, Kongolo, Ream, Sessegnon, Onomah, Johansen, Cavaleiro, Reid

  20. Virgil van Mike?published at 12:08 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2020

Man City v Fulham (13:00 GMT)

    John Stanton
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

Fulham endured a miserable 2018-19 Premier League season, in no small part because of their defensive deficiencies - the Whites conceded 81 goals in 38 league games, an average of 2.13 per match.

Manager Scott Parker opted not to sign any defenders in the summer and, perhaps inevitably, his team have looked leaky at times this season despite a recent run of improved results taking them up to third in the Championship.

Fulham fans are hopeful that the signing of experienced Championship defender Michael Hector - previously of Chelsea - will provide the solidity required to secure promotion.

The early signs have been promising. Since his debut in the FA Cup third-round win over Aston Villa, they have won three times and drawn once, conceding just one goal. The timing of his January arrival, his stature and dominant presence have seen him described by some as the Championship’s Virgil van Dijk - and by fans of one Fulham podcast as Virgil van Mike.

Whether he can cope with a City team which has scored 23 times in its past eight meetings with the Cottagers, though, is an altogether different matter.
