  1. 'The result speaks for itself'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2020

    FT: Tranmere 0-6 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United goalscorer Diogo Dalot to BBC Sport: “It was a proper English game. Always a great feeling. After a difficult period it’s good to get a goal and help the team.

"To get this amazing win was very good. We always have the spotlight on us and we need to be prepared. With the noise around us, we need to focus on ourselves. We’re doing a good job in training every day and we need to show that on the pitch every time."

    On the pitch...

"Always difficult. Difficult for both teams. They’re more used to it than us. But we didn’t want to come here with excuses. We respected the opponents and fought for the win. It was the right mentality to come here to play this game. The best way to respect the opponent, the pitch, our club. The result speaks for itself."

  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 25 mins

    Shrewsbury 0-1 Liverpool

Dejan Lovren switches it around the back with Joel Matip. Liverpool aren't being put under any pressure so they're just patiently keeping the ball.

But a misskick from Fabinho gifts it to Sean Goss. He quickly threads it through to Shaun Whalley, who is one-on-one with the keeper but Adrian pulls off a smart save with his legs from close range.

It's all Liverpool at the moment. They win the ball on the edge of the Shrewsbury box and Pedro Chirivella's shot is blocked.

Curtis Jones picks up the rebound but skews it way wide. His side have made 171 passes already. Shrewsbury haven't made 50 yet.

It's not easy for Curtis Jones, sitting watching games. He hasn't played since the last time he scored against Everton. All he can do is keep doing what he is doing.

Callum Lang tries to get in behind the Liverpool back four but the flag is up again. Curtis Jones is then back to defend in the right corner.

  7. 'Everyone wanted us to fail'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2020

    FT: Tranmere 0-6 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to BBC Sport: “A lot has been said and written about this pitch. We played it well. We didn’t want to make it a long-ball fight because that’s not the game we wanted. We put the ball down and scored nice goals.

“We have good footballers. They give everything in every game.”

    On Tranmere’s quick start…

“You expect that. They had the boost of going through, at home, put a couple of balls down channels with corners and set-plays. But when you score two or three goals in quick succession, it’s sit down and enjoy the game and let the players enjoy it.”

    On six different goalscorers…

“Brilliant. It’s important we spread that through the team. We’ve lost Marcus for a little while. Our two strikers scored – a confidence boost for everyone.”

On the pressure he is under…

“I don’t know what you’ve said and written. You can see everyone wanted us to fail but it doesn’t bother me. I can’t be up and down [emotionally]. I’m happy but won’t relax. Two big games coming up.”

That's two goals and an assist in five first team appearances for Curtis Jones. Not bad for an 18-year-old.

What about the ball. It was a give and go from midfield and what a pass. Curtis Jones is on to it beautifully. He's just 18 years old but looks like he has been doing that all his life.

GOAL - Shrewsbury 0-1 Liverpoolpublished at 15 mins

    Curtis Jones

Shrewsbury are loose in possession and Takumi Minamino collects. He slips it inside to Pedro Chirivella, who plays a brilliant throughball to Curtis Jones.

Jones' first touch is perfect and his second slots the ball into the bottom of the far corner. Not quite as good as his goal against Everton but another shrewd finish.

Neco Williams plays a lovely curling ball into the box from a deep position. It flies over Pedro Chirivella's head but Takumi Minamino is just inches away from connecting.

    Trent Alexander-Arnold-esque, that delivery.

I've just quickly added it up. It's 428. No idea what the record is though! Fabinho and Dejan Lovren's numbers brought the total down slightly.

It's strange that Jurgen Klopp has chosen to play Takumi Minamino down the middle. You would imagine that Divock Origi would be the obvious candidate to do that.

    Shrewsbury 0-0 Liverpool

Josh Laurent Cruyff turns past three Liverpool players on the right for Shrewsbury (very classy) but the move breaks down.

Takumi Minamino, who has started brightly for Liverpool, comes deep to pick up the ball and threads it through to Divock Origi.

He swivels quickly and has a pop from long range but it's dragged wide.

Pedro Chirivella and Takumi Minamino link-up in midfield with a few passes as Liverpool start to build momemtum.

Harvey Elliott flicks one into the box and Minamino gets past the full-back. His cross rebounds off the defender but then hits the Japanese midfielder and goes out for a goal kick.

It looks as if Shrewsbury are going to play quite deep, attract the opposition on. They tend to play on the counter-attack anyway but certainly will be doing that tonight. The plan will be to hit balls early when they get possession and get plenty of runners going after it.

Really nice atmosphere here. Liverpool fans sing 'we are the champions of Europe' and the home fans respond by chanting the latin name for Shropshire.
