  1. CLOSE!published at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

    Dundee continue to come.

Kane Hemmings, who is causing all sorts of problems, fizzes a ball across goal. Is it a cross? Is it a shot? Who knows, the result is Mark Gillespie being forced to punch the ball out at his near post for a corner, which ends up fizzling out.

Motherwell are trying to get forward, but they just can't make the ball stick.

  2. 'Dundee on fire'published at 20:31 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Quote Message

Dundee have started on fire this half. They're very unlucky not to have scored the goal which would get them right back in this one.

  3. Resurgent Dundee?published at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

Motherwell living dangerously here. Declan McDaid is invited to drive forward by the Motherwell defence. The former Ayr United man takes a pot shot which flies inches by the near post.

The Premiership side have failed to settle in this second half. They better do it quickly if they are going to keep this cushion.

  4. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:26 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

Dundee inches away from cutting the deficit in half. A great free-kick delivery from Graham Dorrans is planted on to the head of Kane Hemmings. The big striker's flicked header is out of the reach of Mark Gillespie, and cannons back off the bar.

  5. McPake makes his movepublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

    Quote Message

Christopher Long has all the attributes to do really well. I know they want to sign him on a new contract. I think he will go on and score a lot more goals between now and the end of the season.

  10. Long and short of itpublished at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    HT: Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

It has been one way traffic for the majority of the game and Motherwell will already feel they have one foot in the fifth round.

Christopher Long's play has been the difference. His thumping free-kick opened the scoring, while a fine finish a few minutes later put Motherwell on Easy Street. Liam Polworth can claim two assists, although his first for taking a tumble for the free-kick will still irk the Dundee bench.

For James McPake's men, it already looks like a long way back. Can they do it?

  12. Have itpublished at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

Not a sight Motherwell fans will be used to. Richard Tait takes a fancy for a wander and goes sprinting down the wing. He jinks inside 30 yards out and lashes a shot at goal, with the ball sailing comfortably over.

At the other end, Graham Dorrans cuts a frustrated figure as his free-kick in a dangerous position is crossed to nobody, with the ball running out for a goal kick.

    Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

In all the drama of the second goal, worth pointing out that Stephen Robinson was forced into an early change. Jermaine Hylton has come off with Sherwin Seedorf introduced on the left.

It's a beautiful goal from the striker. Chris Long does everything right. A lovely little pass and he's in behind. He still has a lot of work to do but he looks up and curls it past the goalkeeper. Motherwell thoroughly deserve the 2-0 lead. They're well on top. Dundee did well to respond to the first one but it's a big ask now.

  17. goal

GOAL - MOTHERWELLpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Christopher Long

While brute force created the opener, a touch of class topped off the second.

Liam Polworth's first-time pass unlocked the Dundee defence to send Christopher Long scampering clear. With confidence high, the former Everton man calmly guides the ball beyond Jack Hamilton. Within 60 seconds of almost gifting Dundee a leveller, the Fir Park side is cruising.

  18. Kamikaze defendingpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-1 Motherwell

    My word.

Carnage at the back for Motherwell. A botched clearance results in the ball ballooning over keeper Mark Gillespie and goalward under pressure from Kane Hemmings. Richard Tait, the man who played a part in the initial mistake, hurls a leg at the ball on the line to hack it clear.

It's just brute force, isn't it? He just batters the ball and something's gone wrong in the organisation of the wall. It put the goalkeeper completely the wrong way. There was nothing subtle about that, but he's just run up and battered it. It's worked for him, but for me it's a good free kick only because it's ended up in the net.
