Even closer from Riyad Mahrez. He's free in the box from a long ball - did Sergio Ramos think he was offside? - but his low effort is well saved by Real's keeper. Should have scored?

    Real Madrid 0-0 Man City

Riyad Mahrez is having a good game for City on the right. He sends a defender one way and then the other and draws a save from Thibaut Courtois at his near post.

Classic Vinicius Jr. The young Real winger beats Kyle Walker for pace to get into the box but then stumbles over and falls before doing anything with it.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Man City

Real Madrid have been really disappointing today. Just a bit slow in every aspect. Luka Modric is nowhere near catching Riyad Mahrez and hacks him down. Yellow card.

  10. 'Gundogan has his place in this City side'published at 21:08 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    Real Madrid 0-0 Man City

    Michael Brown
Former Man City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I was asked this morning by some City fans if I rated Gundogan. They were not sure of what he brings, but I said his awareness, his ability on the ball. He may not be the master of anything but he's a fantastic midfielder and he has his place in this Manchester City side.

City counter and almost score. Kevin de Bruyne carries the ball 50 yards and feeds Riyad Mahrez, who curls the ball just high and wide of the top corner.

  12. Postpublished at 21:07 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    Real Madrid 0-0 Man City

Probably Real's best passing move of the game - they had it for a minute without reaching the box - and then Isco gives it away with a backheel.

  13. Postpublished at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    Real Madrid 0-0 Man City

Only one player in this game was one booking away from a ban - and that was Benjamin Mendy, who picked up a yellow in the first half.

Real aren't looking any better after the break. Fede Valverde runs into trouble and fouls Ilkay Gundogan - earning himself a yellow card.

  15. 'This Real side is there to be got at'published at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    Real Madrid 0-0 Man City

    Micah Richards
Former Man City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

A clean sheet is always good but nicking an away goal stands you in good stead for the return leg. But this Real side is there to be got at, it's not the same team as we saw with Ronaldo in it.

Up to now, Pep's tactics are doing a good job.

    Lyon 1-0 Juventus

    The second half begins.

  19. 'This is City's game'published at 21:03 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    Real Madrid 0-0 Man City

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

The first 10 minutes felt like the warm-up laps of a Formula 1 race to see what Real Madrid had. After that, City started to play and Real don't have an answer. City forced them back and they don't like it. Their options, apart from that one header from Benzema, are long-range shots or give the ball to Vinicius.

I've been disappointed with Isco, who has dropped too deep and Modric, who has been isolated.

This is City's game. They have dominated from minute 10.

Kyle: Real Madrid look like they are there for the taking results wise and performance wise the last 2 weeks they have been poor. If City bring on Sterling and Aguero and are more clinical in front of goal they have a great chance of winning tonight.

Naveen, Reading: To be fair to pep he has got the tactics completely spot on. You can understand his lack of risks as he clearly knows this is his last chance to win the champions league with city. If this remains 0-0 the return leg will be very interesting indeed.
