Birmingham manager Pep Clotet: , external"They are a very, very good side.

"It was a fantastic night. It turned out well after eight years of not being able to get through to this stage of the cup, we managed it tonight.

"We just watched a fantastic cup game. In the FA Cup it doesn't not matter if you are League One, Championship, Premier League or League Two - everyone is in it to win."

Coventry City manager Mark Robins: “I’m proud of the players, I thought they were brilliant, they’ve come out on the wrong side of a result and we had three good chances to put the game to bed in normal time that we didn’t take which means you always run the risk.

“They had two crosses, they pushed Harlee Dean up front to try and get a goal, which they did, right at the death, in normal time, and then to concede with 30 seconds left on the clock in extra-time was poor from us.

“It was two crosses that we allowed to come into the box, and they’ve ended up going in which is tough to take, but that’s football and we have to learn our lessons from today.

“We scored two brilliant goals which were really good and well worked goals, the second one was outstanding, but we have to move on, we’re out of the cup as disappointing as that is, we’ve got 17 games to turn it into a really exciting end to the season.”

Liverpool

Liverpool captain Curtis Jones told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Proud is an understatement. All the boys went out there and showed belief, character, showed everything that the manager looks for in his players. I was grateful to become the youngest captain of the team but most importantly we came away with the win with a great performance.

"There is spirit in the team. When I played in the U23s, there have been plenty of times when we have gone down and the boys have shown great character to come back.

"VAR is now in the game and it happens a lot where you see goals disallowed but when it was happening there was a bit of disappointment but the lads kept their heads and went and showed because we bounced back perfectly and got a bit of luck for our goal.

"The boys showed with that performance that they have given the manager a hard choice for the next game. The boys showed heart, character and a hard decision for the next game."

On playing Chelsea in the next round...

"It is away so their fans will be behind them and of course it will be difficult but the character we showed today, I don't think that will put a lot of pressure on us. We will go there and hopefully do a job and come away with another win and go through again.

"I want to thank Andrew Robertson for giving me his box so I was able to get a lot of my family and friends in there and I am happy the boys came away with a win not only for my family but for the great fans around the world and in the stadium."

Shrewsbury manager Sam Ricketts: "I don’t want to use the word disappointed, just a little bit flat to be honest.

“We really struggled to get going, we’ve played that any games – 39 games now – and we look liked a side that just couldn’t get going.

“Liverpool moved the ball really well - young, bright, lively - and they played well to be fair to them but I just felt at any point we could’ve got going. You can’t play the game at 90-95% - you need to be at it and we weren’t at it.

“We had a little spell and then a goal disallowed but apart from that we were too passive and couldn’t get into the game and couldn’t impose ourselves.

“We’ve had a very marginal goal disallowed for offside and Max [O’Leary] made one good save but we weren’t anywhere near where we want to be today and then we’ve lost it to an own goal. You could say the game should be going into extra-time with us not hitting out top gear at all.

"The exposure the club has got [from the cup run], everyone knows who Shrewsbury are and how we run the club and fund the club but now it’s back to the league.”

On the VAR decision to disallow Shrewsbury's goal: “You have to trust VAR to come to the right conclusion but it is what it is and I can’t control that."

Reading manager Mark Bowen said he did not care if his team won or lost their penalty shootout.

"I actually said to them at the final whistle - and this might sound a bit strange - I genuinely don't care if we win or lose," Bowen said.

"We showed a lot of character and heart in the second half. We had a few harsh words at half-time, we let Cardiff play and dominate us. But we affected the game second half.

"They got to that stage where they were all winners, anything can happen on penalties. If we had lost on penalties it wouldn't have changed my opinions of my players.

"No pressure, just strike it true. If we win, we win - and we did."

These are the eighth FA Cup fifth-round ties. They will be played midweek for the first time. They're initially all scheuled for Tuesday, 3 March but some will be moved around for TV.

Cardiff manager Neil Harris: "You've got to attack as a team and defend as a team. We need to be better, have better concentration and understanding.

"Turning draws into wins is something that we've fallen short of, and that was the case over 120 minutes again tonight.

"We've let three goals in from crosses, which isn't good enough. The senior players in there are going to be disappointed."

Northampton manager Keith Curle: "In the first half I didn't think we turned it enough into a cup tie. We needed to upset their rhythm.

"They pass and move very well and it can make it difficult. When you are playing against good players you need to slow them down a bit.

"Without being too crude, we needed to make it more of a cup tie, we needed to make them squeal a little bit.

"Overall, we came and we competed. My players will do that because that's the demands I put on them. The effort and commitment, when someone puts the shirt on, that's there."

Derby boss Philip Cocu said: "He's (Wayne Rooney) going to face the club where he had a wonderful career so of course it is special.

"He comes back from the States, joins us and now plays his old club where he had a great career. We have to wait for a month but I'm sure he'll be ready.

"It will be a beautiful game not just for Wayne, but everyone at the club. It's a great game to look forward to and we will also try to win it, against a strong opponent."

James Stevenson: 22 goals in five FA Cup fourth round replays tonight and yet there are calls for them to be ditched? Good luck with that.

Oxford manager Karl Robinson to BBC Sport: "I'm disappointed. Their two games - one was our fault stupidly playing into a trap. The second one should have been a free-kick. I felt aggrieved. The referee gave a lot of soft things against us. I thought there could have been a red card for the foul on Mark Sykes, who was through on goal.

"I'm proud of the players and fans. I thought we performed wonderfully well. I know how talented they are. This wasn't a lower league side making it horrible for them. It was a very even game.

"We showed tremendous bravery in our style. We're trying to develop a philosophy, an ethos. I'm absolutely gutted. This will hurt for a while because we pushed them all the way.

"We've got to make sure [to repeat] what it took to play like that. If we remember some of those things, if you play with that style... I'm proud of the club. Just gutted.

"We've pushed Man City and Newcastle here and beaten West Ham. We have to get back down to what really matters which is the league. You get nothing from being unlucky. We have 17 cup finals, which is a rubbish cliche. We've got to perform to that level for those games."

Liverpool

Liverpool under-23s coach Neil Critchley, in charge of the Reds on the night, told BBC Sport: "We managed to change the momentum in our favour and played the type of game we wanted to play.

"I thought if we could handle the occasion and the first 10 minutes then we could play their way into the game. I have worked with these boys and I know what they can do. I think over the 90 minutes we were deserved winners."

On the disallowed Shrewsbury goal: "It was a pivotal moment in the game. They were just starting to get into the game and we were a bit tired. You could say we had our bit of luck but VAR is there for a reason.

"I am really proud of them tonight. These boys are in a phase of their careers where they need to keep learning and the developing. Hopefully the players see the benefit they have done in training with nights like tonight."

On a message from Jurgen Klopp: "The manager sent a message prior to the game with some words of advice and support which was fantastic,

"He is delighted with the performance and the result. There was a message at half-time and and at full-time.

"There was a message before the game that Chelsea away could be an opportunity for one or two of them and they put in a performance tonight."
