    That's all from me tonight.

It's been a great evening for Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City - but a miserable one in the end for Aston Villa who remain stuck in the Premier League's bottom three.

  2. 'Individual mistakes are costing us'published at 22:28 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2020

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith speaking to BBC Sport: "A disappointing night, a disappointing scoreline. After the performance in the cup final against Manchester City we thought that might be a turning point. We started well in the first 10 minutes. They took over possession and control of the game. We were solid behind the ball but they were a threat from set-pieces.

"A problem for us this season is defending them. We gave away two or three free headers. We’ve been working on it. Individual mistakes are costing us. We need to get better.

"We made a mistake for the first goal. Pepe came out for a ball he wasn’t going to get and made Barnes’ goal easy. One of my biggest regrets was how we gave the ball away so cheaply against a team who want the football.

"We made a big error. Teams capitalise on our errors. We’ve probably made more individual errors than anyone his season. We were still in it, 1-0 down at half-time. Then they’re given a penalty. It’s very, very harsh. It’s his shoulder. It’s a poor decision. They got it wrong.

"When they get the second, it’s a massive moment.

"The scoreline is a tad harsh on us. We’ve got to make sure we’re tougher to beat that we were. We went 4-4-2 chasing the game at 2-0 and it became a bit basketball, end to end. Then they scored a goal out of nothing. Vardy had four of our players around him. At 3-0 their fans are cock-a-hoop and they’re playing celebrity football."

It was a tough night for Jack Grealish, who had just 42 touches against Leicester and failed to have a shot.

Still in Gareth Southgate's plans? Almost certainly. But he'll need to do much, much more if Villa are going to stay up this season.

  4. 'The penalty award was a massive moment'published at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2020

    Leicester 4-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a very tough night. We started the game quite well but then we didn't defend corners well enough and we had a big mistake for the goal.

"I didn't know what the penalty was given for - I thought it hit Tyrone Mings' shoulder - but it was given.

"The penalty award was a massive moment. We were still in the game. It went against us - I thought wrongly - that's my opinion.

"But then we became architects of our own downfall.

"Being hard to beat needs to be our priority. For periods we were but the scoreline is a harsh reflection."

On Pepe Reina's error for Leicester's opening goal: "Pepe had a rush of blood but it starts from our throw-in and we need to do better.

"People make mistakes. He will be the first to admit that was a mistake but there were other things we could do to stop that goal."

Aston Villa still have to face Chelsea (H) on Saturday, Wolves (H), Liverpool (A), Manchester United (H), Everton (A), Arsenal (A) and Sheffield United (H) among their remaining 10 Premier League games.

Will they be able to collect the points they need to stay up?

  6. 'Evans was incredible'published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2020

    Leicester 4-0 Aston Villa

    Leicester City

More from Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers: "A very, very good win, an important win. The last few games - certainly our last game - we haven't been at our level. In terms of attacking, we were much better this evening. After the first goal we went on and played very well.

"We want to win and early on you could see our confidence wasn't where it has been. The only way you regain that confidence is hard work and these players have been brilliant. Tonight the intensity was there and we didn't give away too much - Jonny Evans was incredible and it's another clean sheet for us."

On Harvey Barnes: "He's got a very bright future, he's been getting better, his intensity and hunger to get in and score is what we've spoken about and now he gets in there regularly and he's getting goals. I'm delighted for him and Jamie [Vardy] who got two as well."

On Vardy: "Jamie was studying the penalties before the game on his tablet. He looked bright in his running and his movement was very good. He's struggled since December with injuries but he looked all over it.

"We want to look forward, for us we don't get too counter productive and look on the negative side. We can only concentrate on ourselves. We have a great spirit and great honesty."

  7. 'We got our fluency back'published at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2020

    Leicester 4-0 Aston Villa

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers, speaking to Sky Sports: "As the game went on we looked more like how we've been for most of the season. The resilience and effort was brilliant and in the second half we got our fluency back and some of our goals were outstanding. We played some really good football at times.

"The intensity is important to how we play and the pressure on the ball was much better. That desire is so critical for us. A real collective confidence has allowed us to be where we are and our ambition is to stay there. If we play like that and with that confidence we have every chance.

"This result is very, very important. Both teams needed to win for different reasons but our desire and quality has seen us through. We were much more creative, dynamic and fast and all with a solid defensive base."

On Jamie Vardy's return to scoring form: "Jamie has been outstanding in his career at Leicester and he's been phenomenal. The injury over seven or eight weeks had curtailed him but his running and movement were back to what we are used to from him. He got his reward for his hard work."

Steve Calvert: I think it's got to the stage now where Jack knows we're going down and he won't be at Villa next season.

Greg Morter: Leicester City were superb while Aston Villa were not at the races and on the end of a 4-0 defeat could have been more.

  9. 'Back near our best'published at 22:08 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2020

    Leicester 4-0 Aston Villa

    Leicester City

More from Leicester's Jamie Vardy: "Obviously you come on and you want to make an impact. To score two goals and help see out the game was really enjoyable."

On his penalty: "It was a case of calling the keepers bluff - he told me not to shoot down the middle, so I shot down the middle.

"It was a really important result, the past few games we've not been up to our standards but tonight the performance definitely deserved the win. That was us getting back to where we were at the start of the season.

"We look like we're in a good position. Now we will look to Saturday and we need another good performance."

  10. 'We're looking up the table'published at 22:07 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2020

    Leicester 4-0 Aston Villa

    Leicester City

Leicester goalscorer Harvey Barnes, speaking to Sky Sports: "We played really well. We've had a tough period but it felt good to get back to winning ways and to get on the scoresheet was great.

"We were gutted with how the cup game went [Leicester lost to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup semi-final] and we knew they are fighting for their lives. It's good to get a bit of payback for how the cup went and we are delighted.

"We've been in a bit of a sticky period and not collecting points when we should have been but we can kick on from here.

"Every club around sixth or seventh is going to be looking for the top four. Our position is great and we need to maintain that. We're looking forward and looking up the table - hopefully picking up wins and points."

On how the season is going for him personally: "This season is my first full season. The first half of the season I was a bit disappointed but since the new year the goals have been flying in - I've started a lot of games and scored a lot of goals so I'm delighted with how it's going."

    Leicester 4-0 Aston Villa

    Leicester City

Leicester goalscorer Jamie Vardy, speaking to BBC Sport: "We needed to put in a performance. The past few weeks it's not been there. I've been through a spell where I've not scored but that happens and luckily tonight they both went in.

"It's a boost for us but we know we've got cup finals every single week now. We'll enjoy this result and then get back on the training field and look forward to next week."

On his first touch being the penalty he scored past Pepe Reina: "It made it a bit easier as the keeper said I was going down the middle and I was. He tried to call my bluff."
