Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith: "We have a great belief in ourselves, we can beat any of the last 11 teams we've got to play.

"You only have to look at the results from last weekend to know all teams in the league are beatable.

"It's tough but we need to make sure we get the performances from the Tottenham and Manchester City games and not the Southampton game.

"The consistency in performances is what will get us the points in the bag."

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers: "We're sat in a fantastic position at this stage of the season.

"I think because of the level of consistency and how the players have worked and played over the course of this season, we've had a little bit of a blip going back for a few games.

"I know it's only a matter of time before we'll go back to being consistent again, because we focus very much on being optimistic within the team."

  3. Villa look to capitalisepublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2020

Leicester v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Defeats for West Ham, Watford, Bournemouth and Norwich over the weekend offer Aston Villa the chance to leap from 19th to 16th with victory at the King Power Stadium this evening.

Dean Smith's side currently have two games in hand on the sides around them in the fight for Premier League survival following their League Cup final defeat by Manchester City last weekend.

This really is a huge opportunity for Villa tonight.

Leicester v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Leicester will be looking to move to within four points of reigning champions Manchester City in second, after Pep Guardiola's side slipped to a 2-0 derby defeat by Manchester United on Sunday.

The Foxes, who still have daylight between themselves and fifth despite their recent dip, can move eight points clear of Manchester United as they look to secure a Champions League spot.

Eleven games to go for Villa and the immediate schedule looks fairly daunting. If they are going to stay up, they'll have to do it the hard way.

But there are some reasons to be cheerful for Villa fans. Leicester haven't won in the league since 22 January, they beat them over two legs in the League Cup and results also went for them at the weekend.

I don't think Leicester should be too alarmed by their 2020 form but Chelsea and Manchester United are now breathing down their necks and they need to start winning soon.

    Chris Sutton
Former Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Since Brendan Rodgers signed a new contract in December, they haven't been fantastic Mr Foxes at all. They've fallen away a little bit. Saying that they're still in the Champions League spots. I think they'll look to strengthen in the summer.

  8. Vardy's goal droughtpublished at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2020

Leicester v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Brendan Rodgers' side have failed to score in their past three league games - against Wolves, Manchester City and Norwich - but main man Jamie Vardy is on a much longer drought.

He's failed to score in his past seven in the league - and past nine in all competitions.

He could be called upon to have an impact from the bench this evening if things aren't going Leicester's way.

Khan Karn: Disappointing that Demarai Gray miss out. Untapped potential.

Coire Burnet: Feel it could be a sneaky win for the villains tonight. Leicester have struggled a bit of late for goals and form and I think villa will have the edge in a physical game.

Brendan Rodgers said he is not surprised that Leicester's dip has coincided with Wilfred Ndidi's absence.

The midfielder attempted to return too soon after undergoing knee surgery in January but managed 60 minutes against Birmingham City in the FA Cup on Wednesday.

"We know we are a better team with him in it, there's no question," said Rodgers. "When you're without one of the best players in that position in the league, he's always going to be a miss.

"Some of the guys have come in and done fantastic but he's irrepressible. It's what he gives the team and what he allows the others to be able to do.

"Hopefully he can stay fit now because he's very important for us."

Despite a spirited effort, Dean Smith's side lost out 2-1 to holders Manchester City in the League Cup final eight days ago.

Aston Villa's main priority this season is of course Premier League survival and, while a trophy may have been nice, the question now is whether Villa can use their resilient performance in the final to achieve their target over their final 11 league games.

"I saw plenty more things in their performance on the pitch that made me believe they have what it takes," said former Villa striker Dion Dublin following the final.

"The resilience they will need was definitely there. There was not an awful lot of quality from Villa for most of the game, but they fought tooth and nail to stay in it right until the end."

  15. Foxes look to end winless runpublished at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2020

Leicester v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Leicester are currently winless in four Premier League matches.

But despite back-to-back 1-0 defeats by Manchester City and Norwich, the Foxes can maintain their hold on a Champions League place by moving eight points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United with a win this evening.

The Foxes last went four straight top-flight games without scoring back in February 2017, during Claudio Ranieri’s final six matches in charge.

Leicester are confident Jamie Vardy will be able to return to action tonight following a recent calf problem.

However, left-back Ben Chilwell has been nursing a hamstring strain and will be assessed.

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn won't feature this evening but he could make his comeback from a fractured ankle against Chelsea on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland impressed against Manchester City in the League Cup final and he could be preferred to Pepe Reina once again.

The Premier League title can now be wrapped up on Saturday, before the league leaders even kick another ball.

Liverpool, who now require just two wins from their final nine games, will be crowned champions should Manchester City lose their next two against Arsenal on Wednesday and Burnley on Saturday.

For the neutrals at least, the excitement at the end of the 2019-20 campaign is all about the race for Champions League qualification - and the battle to avoid the drop.

In that sense, we've got quite the game for you this evening as third-placed Leicester host an Aston Villa side in 19th...
