A key save as Orjan Nyland turns a Rodri header around the post. Just like he did for the second City goal, Rodri found space from a corner and headed low.

I think Marvelous Nakamba is a very, very lucky boy. A lot of force, two-footed. You can't do that, he's jumped into the tackle studs showing. To leave the ground and launch yourself into a challenge like that is bang out of order.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 73 mins

Marvelous Nakamba gets booked for that heavy tackle on Sergio Aguero.

It was two footed, it was hard and it was full on.

I think he was a touch lucky. Had he got it wrong by a split second it was red for sure.

We have a big, big tackle here. Many players rush to the scene. That was like a wrecking ball from Marvelous Nakamba on Sergio Aguero.

It was anything but Marvelous to be fair. More as we get it as Aguero gets ready to land back on earth.

Jack Grealish runs at Manchester City for the first time all day really and passes left to Conor Hourihane. A safe cross really into a good area but Zinchenko is there to head high and clear.

    A double change...

    Ahmed Elmohamady off, Trezeguet on.

Conor Hourihane comes on for Anwar El Ghazi.

There's still a great atmosphere in Wembley as Tyrone Mings intercepts a through ball from Kevin De Bruyne.

Ahmed Elmohamady is booked for leaving a bit on David Silva.

We think the man known as 'Elmo' is about to be taken off anyway.

Pep has nullified Grealish. When he does get it he's in the wrong positions.

Aston Villa come forward down the right and the cross is just a bit ahead of Anwar El Ghazi.

Manchester City dominating possession but not carving out clear cut chances. Aston Villa strictly second best but still right in this EFL Cup final.

He's hardly seen the ball today has Jack Grealish.

Aston Villa's official Twitter account urges the team to "keep going".

That is kind of the key isn't it. They can't compete in many ways but they can just stick in there and wait for something to drop their way.

They win a free-kick... out it goes for a goal kick from a poor Jack Grealish delivery.

Tyrone Mings saves Villa as Kevin De Bruyne gets in behind and looks to put one on a plate for Sergio Aguero. It took a sliding interception by the defender to intervene. Phil Foden played De Bruyne in behind with a lovely weight of pass. He's been very good and my guess is he gets the man of the match nod if it stays like this.

So just to be clear, we now have Rodri and Raheem Sterling on yellow cards. A touch of bite is trickling into this game.

The last thing you want to see... A fresh Kevin de Bruyne coming on, picking out passes. They've got their work cut out even more now, Villa.

So Kevin De Bruyne is on to cause a bit of mayhem. Villa will probably be happy with the way things have stayed fairly calm so far since the break.

In comes a cross from the City left, Phil Foden hits one and it's bravely blocked inside the box.

Another booking - this time it's Rodri - for pulling Douglas Luiz down. I'd say that was a tactical foul but I wouldn't want Pep to take issue with me.

We see what you've done there Christophe.

The real problem for Villa is that City have a bench that cost £331m. Their depth is incredible

    Matthew from Bolton

Thanks for this Matthew. As your text arrives, City are about to bring Kevin De Bruyne on. Not a bad sub.

  20. A bit of needle...published at 55 mins

    Aston Villa 1-2 Manchester City

And again, the game is stretched. It's been a strange one with pockets of mayhem, plenty of Villa sitting deep and then back to the open chaos.

Jack Grealish has a niggle but he's just landed awkwardly and will shake it off. And a slight coming together between Frederic Guilbert and Raheem Sterling.

The defender thrust a ball into the chest of Sterling as he felt City were taking an age over a throw. And hang, on what's this... Sterling clatters Guilbert seconds later.

He left a bit on him as the saying goes.

    Yellow card.
