    "Play up Pompey..."

    The chimes are, erm, chiming.

Never been Fratton actually on an away day. Looks a cracker. Bet the pies are hotter than the sun and the Bovril tastes like gravel.

The two sets of players have gone shoulder-to-shoulder in the Fratton tunnel. Almost literally. About as wide as a changing room down the Arndale Centre.

Ali Campbell: Strong bench for us (Pompey) but we’ve a huge game coming up against Peterborough - sorry Arsenal, promotion is our priority! Enough quality on the pitch to give it a good go though.

Arsenal fans want to see Mikel Arteta build the club. I think they see this as the right appointment for the right club. He’ll get the time.

But Arsenal need to be pushing for trophies.

He needs a good look at the squad – especially some of the players playing tonight.

In-form Portsmouth, who are third in League One, have won 10 successive home games. Plenty of value for money for Fratton Park ticket holders.

And they have won 21 of their past 27 fixtures in all competitions.

    Worried yet Gooners?

Another gem in that Guardian piece is Ronan Curtis banned his mum Marie from going on Twitter after she posted asking if Pompey striker Brett Pitman had "put on some weight or is it the TV?"

That has got us thinking... how many of you have been embarrassed by your parents at football? Whether it has been in front of your team-mates, or while stood on the terrace, we want to know.

    Tweet #bbcfootball with your funnies.

Pompey fans might be gutted that Ronan Curtis is not fit to start - but probably not as much as the man himself.

The 23-year-old forward is a boyhood Arsenal fan, who used to send messages to Santi Cazorla and has a signed shirt from Kieran Gibbs.

His mum Marie might be a little more relieved - she's also an Arsenal fan who wears her Wenger-style benchcoat to Pompey matches. No news on whether that's the case tonight or not.

Curtis - and his mum - have spoken to Ben Fisher of the Guardian before tonight's match. It is a must-read, external with plenty of fun nuggets in there, including Curtis' godfather is former Wales boss Chris Coleman.

    No more spoilers. Promise.

    Gary O'Neil
Former Portsmouth midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I thought Arsenal would go stronger tonight. They're out of the Europa League, they are not going to achieve anything in the league so this is their last chance for success this season. Portsmouth's players will want to give debutant Pablo Mari a little test and get fans behind you.

Portsmouth's support is second to none. I never had support like it at any other club. Normally you get a few grumbles at 1-0 down but you don’t get that at Portsmouth so long as you’re giving your all.

Portsmouth manager Kenny JackettImage source, Reuters

"If you're looking at the ups and downs of Portsmouth, they've had a lot of highs, FA Cup winners, but then spent four years in League Two and before that administration where they did really well to be able to climb out," says current boss Kenny Jackett.

"We want to try and get back, and get back into the upper echelons of the pyramid, definitely, if we can.

"We want to try and do it in a sustainable way as well, that's important.

"But Monday night, there will be a national focus on us and that will be great, and hopefully we can have many more.

"You're playing against one of the genuinely great clubs in this country. It's a great game for us. They don't come along often so you have to be enthusiastic about it.

"It's a fantastic tie, a mouth-watering one and definitely one we're looking forward to."

Tony Adams was one of Harry Redknapp's assistants when Portsmouth won the FA Cup in 2008, setting up some European adventures which included playing AC Milan.

But their fall from grace was stark.

They went from finishing eighth in the Premier League in 2007-08 to 13th in League Two in 2013-14, as owners came and went and Pompey sank deeper into debt.

There was genuine fear among fans that the club - founded in 1898 - could go out of existence.

In April 2013 came the news a High Court judge had signed an order paving the way for the Pompey Supporters' Trust to take over.

A consortium comprising some 3,000 fans, together with 13 businesspeople known as 'presidents', all of whom reached into their own pockets, had saved Portsmouth from extinction.

    Tony Pulis
Former Portsmouth manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Let me stick up for the managers. If you look at Portsmouth's fixtures over the last few months, they average two or three games a week. They've got a massive game at Peterborough this weekend. The priority is to get promoted to the Championship. This is a bonus game. Everyone will expect Arsenal to beat them.

The side he's picked I'm sure will have a right go. If they do that their fans will get behind them.

Arsenal's squad of 25 players will be earning a fortune. Mikel Arteta has asked one or two to earn their money. I don't see any reason they shouldn't be.

Paul: Should Arsenal have gone stronger? What is stronger for us? Stronger as in like our supposed strongest team who were an absolute shambles against Olympiakos at home? At least some of the younger ones put more effort in.

    Portsmouth v Arsenal (19:45 GMT)

    Not one for the traditionalists.

We might be used to FA Cup ties on a Monday night, but we're not used to the fifth round being played over four midweek nights.

The bulging schedule - and implementation of last month's winter break - means the last-16 matches have been moved from its customary mid-February date.

Replays have also been scrapped from the fifth round so all the ties will be decided on the night.
