Norwich need to raise their game. This is a game they simply have to win. The players may be feeling fatigued but lose this and it is over for them. They need three points, simple as that.

Danny Ings has been phenomenal this season and it was a big opportunity for him in the first half.

As the half has grown on, Southampton have been the better team, Norwich had a chance early on with Tom Trybull but he dallied on the ball.

Norwich will be disappointed by the first half display, they have gone two up top but that has not clicked for them.

There is an argument from Norwich's performance that the crowd might have got on the backs but the players need to inspire themselves, they cannot afford a slow start.

They need to come into these first few games and hit the ground running which means three points from this match. Norwich have to raise themselves and lift it.

Considering the state after 10 minutes (see 18:12 entry), Southampton have really turned this around.

They are the team looking the more positive and threatening, as these average positions testify...

It has been a long time since the players were out on a pitch for a competitive game - even longer for Harry Kane.

He last featured for Tottenham on New Year's Day, when he suffered a serious hamstring injury against Southampton that later required surgery.

Kane's prolonged absence means he has dropped down the top scorers list in the Premier League. He has 11, eight behind leading scorer Jamie Vardy.

Kane was in good form just before his injury with four goals in five games, so he will be hoping he can pick right up from where he left off.

Jose confirmed the other day that Harry Kane will start tonight - but he will be rusty. Even rustier than everyone else.

Don't worry goal fans, we've got Jose Mourinho's Spurs to come.

James Ward-Prowse curls it over the wall - but easy enough for Tim Krul to pouch.

The Saints now get a free-kick right on the edge of the area.

Norwich started the half with a great chance from a free-kick, they end it with a dead ball in a similar spot.

And it is another sighter, Timm Klose nods wide, possibly from an offside position anyway.

Norwich have lost an awful lot of defenders in recent times so there's concern when Timm Klose goes down in a heap - but fear not, it's nothing more serious than a kick to the nose. He's right as rain.

Shot on target - Josip Drmic peels out left for the Canaries and works it back inside, Teemu Pukki helps it on to Kenny McLean and he drags one at Alex McCarthy from 22 yards or so. Needed some strike to score from there.

No such thing as a lost cause with this Saints front two. Danny Ings nearly turns a hoof into a through ball but Timm Klose is wise enough.

Like I say, they are nearly a very good side, if you can say that without being patronising. Probably not.

Are they the best team to be bottom of the Premier League? It's the question you thought nobody was asking - but we did.

Southampton now fully on top. Norwich had that nitro start but now they are struggling to keep hold of the ball.

Damien Wood Esq: I watched the Italian cup final and their solution was a filter over the main camera that made it look like a massive display over the crowd with waiving flags over the seats. It looked great and is better than cutouts and banners I think.

You fancied the back of the net to bulge with Danny Ings, he tried to give Tim Krul the eyes and rattles the crossbar.

Norwich's two centre-halves cannot deal with the movement of Ings and Michael Obafemi.
