  3. 'If there is a team that can smash us, it is City'published at 22:55 British Summer Time 2 July 2020

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "The game had a lot of key moments and City used them. That is how it is. We had our moments where we were really close to make something but City were really there. They used our mistakes, we didn't use their mistakes.

"The game was open but it clicked more for City than for us. But I wanted to see a brilliant attitude and I saw that, the boys were really fighting. Nobody was like 'hey I am coming here, we don't care'. We care a lot. That is how it feels, it feels not good and it should not feel like it is.

"If there is a team in the world that can smash us like this it is probably City but we will come again. Make a few things better and it could look differently but for tonight that is it.

"If City are clicking it is uncomfortable to play them. It is very uncomfortable to play us. We had good moments but it is difficult to mention them because we lost 4-0. The boys showed we are ready to fight again."

  4. Player rater resultspublished at 22:52 British Summer Time 2 July 2020

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

Well, the results of the player rater are in. You are not going to believe this but you decided Kevin de Bruyne was man of the match. I know, unbelievable right?

He notched up a paltry average rating of 8.55, with Phil Foden second on 7.99.

The highest Liverpool rating? Jordan Henderson with 4.16. Ouch.

  5. VAR decision a farce - Wilderpublished at 22:47 British Summer Time 2 July 2020

    Sheffield United 3-1 Tottenham

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder praised his side's "decent performance" during their 3-1 win, but branded VAR a "farce" after a Spurs goal was disallowed due to handball.

"It has been a tough few weeks for us as a football club, we watned to come out of the traps but obviously didn't," he said.

"I saw signs on Sunday against Arsenal and we took it on tonight against a side with a manager I have a huge amount of respect for."

On the VAR decision: "There is no deliberate handball in there. I think it is a bit of a farce rule at the moment. We've been the victims of a couple of those decisions. I still don't think it is the right decision if I am being honest.

"One has gone for us and we will gladly take that but I hope the game isn't dominated by that decision and is looked at as a decent performance from us."

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

    Manchester City

Pep Guardiola talking to Sky Sports

"We beat the champions, an extraordinary team. We are brave to play, they are brave to play.

"My team I like every single game. We tried to play football, take risks. The best team I have ever faced in my life at high pressing.

"We had the courage to play in the small spaces.

"It is important. I saw the guard of honour, how they work inside, how focused they were. They didn't even say thank you because they were focused.

"They drank a lot of beers this week but they arrived here with no beers in their blood which is why I give us a lot of credit."

Fletch Fletcher: City won't be too bothered by losing the league since they're still on for the champions league and a treble. Tonight was a fantastic reminder of how good they can be and how entertaining next season will be

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp talking to Sky Sports:

"Is the game important to us? I saw a brilliant attitude.

"They were quicker than us in mind. We lacked fluidity. Against Man City you have massive problems.

"We had moments. We had chances, we didn't use them. The result we have to take.

"If you want to lead this story in direction we were not focused, then do it. I liked my teams attitude, you ask again. Isn't it nice another team can be champions when Man City can play so well.

"Man City are incredible. I saw their season, they didn't play a bad game."

    Manchester City

Raheem Sterling talking to Sky Sports:

Just a second defeat of the season for Liverpool.

The 100 point record set by City in 2017-18 is still on. They need to claim 15 of the 18 still available to them to do that.

Their lead at the top is cut to 20, with the record gap between first and second and the end of a Premier League season the 19 City managed in 2017-18.

They can't now equal City's record for away wins in a season, though. City got 16 in, wait for it, 2017-18. The most Liverpool can now get is 15.
