  1. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 90+4 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

The goal has been scratched off. It was Mahrez that finished superbly, inside Alisson's near post. But he was allowed to break away by a handball from Phil Foden, who was on the ground at the time.

No matter. 4-0 will just have to do.

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa & Man Utd striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It looked like Man City were champions, with a 20 point lead, in the first half. I'm definitely putting this Liverpool performance down to a blip.

None of their players can come out of this game with any credit. It just hasn't gone for them at all tonight.

The 90 minutes are up. A humbling night for the champions.

  8. Postpublished at 87 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

They'll get nothing from this (obviously) but Liverpool keep plugging away. Robertson swings in a cross that almost falls to Minamino, but deflects off the forward and is claimed by Ederson.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 85 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

Liverpool's final change sees Takumi Minamino replace a visibly annoyed Sadio Mane. You suspect his anger is more to do with his team's display than the fact he's going off.

  10. Postpublished at 83 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

And still City come. Cancelo floats a cross deep into the box where De Bruyne is free and tries to loop a header over the advancing Alisson but nods it wide.

Not often you say this, but the Belgian should do better.

  11. Postpublished at 82 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

Oh, almost five. Riyad Mahrez collects from De Bruyne, turns to beat a defender and then fires an angled shot past the far post.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 78 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

More changes. City take off Laporte and Sterling and send on Nicolas Otamendi and Bernardo Silva.

Liverpool's trophy hunting is done for this season, but City still have silverware to compete for.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 77 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold's night is over as he is replaced by highly-rated young full-back Nico Williams.

The defender immediately gets involved, playing his part in a move that ends with Salah curling a shot tamely into the hands of Ederson.

  14. Postpublished at 75 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

Excellent work from Naby Keita sees him beat a couple of men down the left touchline, but his low ball into the box is behind Mane and the danger evaporates.

Matthew Seddon: Is there anyone playing better post restart than Raheem Sterling? It's not just his attacking contribution but the work he does tracking back. I'm an Arsenal fan, and I was bowled over by how hard he was working in their game against us

Roger: If a GK tries to save a shot and gets a hand on it but it goes in anyway it's not an own goal. Why is that an own goal. There's no way they can say absolutely that was going wide..

  16. 'I did not expect this'published at 21:48 British Summer Time 2 July 2020

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa & Man Utd striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I did not expect this. I knew City would come out flying and I expected Liverpool to come out flying.

I knew there would be goals but I didn't realise City would be scoring all of them and they would be so dominant.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 73 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

City take the opportunity to make another change, withdrawing Walker and sending on Joao Cancelo.

  18. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

There is usually a spring in Jurgen Klopp's step. He's trudging around the touchline now, though, during the second-half drinks break.

Pep continues to bounce around like a Gummy Bear (Google it, kids).

  19. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Man City 4-0 Liverpool

City are going to get more here. They want to embarrass the champions. Foden plays a pass behind the Reds defence and finds Sterling, who checks and just loses control, allowing Liverpool to clear.

I think this Premier League season boils down to priorities. Liverpool needed the Premier League. City want the Champions League. Despite how well Liverpool have done, a treble would surely mean City have had a better season. Lots to play for for Pep.
