We've seen it on several occasions, very harsh.

They got the decision correct. It's the law, the rules. That's what is difficult to take. We want to watch goals - it's really harsh on Spurs.

We had a different rule for many years. We've got to try to go with the advantage. It doesn't sit right, all these goals being disallowed. If you're in the ground you don't know with the replays. It's so tough to take.

In that case there was no advantage and Spurs should have had a free kick. To punish them was ridiculous.

    Steven Pacitti

So you don't think it's silly that you can foul a player and by the magic of VAR get possession of the ball yourself?

    Sam

It isn't silly, its just plan stupid. The rule is ridiculous as there is no room for any leeway or decision making. Normal VAR decisions are based on 'clear and obvious' but the handball rule is just fixed. How can Moura of got out of the way and the only reason he was on the floor was due to a foul on him?

That was an entertaining one. The work-rate and desire is there from Sheffield United. As they walk off Eric Dier is asking the referee why he's made that decision. You've got to give teams credit. Spurs reacted and put pressure on until the end.

It's a very important lead. But with fatigue, can they keep it up? Spurs are starting to move the ball around. Jose Mourinho will tell his players to move the ball a bit quicker.

Antony Short: Mourinho has taken Spurs backwards, tedious to watch at best. Under Poch they were so much more expansive and easier on the eye.

Francesca Gunn: I’m sorry to say it’s not silly though with the VAR decision. We know the rule whether intentional or not, if there is any type of handball (from the team that scored) in the build up to a goal, then the goal is ruled out ... so it’s not silly

Sheffield United will feel finally VAR has come back and helped them. It's a strange one. The rule is there but Lucas Moura didn't know anything about it. Is is the correct decision? Yes it is. But Spurs are unfortunate not to score.

Jose Mourinho was unhappy with that decision, as you'd expect. At the very least his side should have had a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Anyway, United's opener was a lovely passage of play. Let's forget all about that opening half hour.

What's crazy is the foul is on Lucas Moura - he was pushed to the floor. The referee gave the advantage but then it came off his arm into the path of Harry Kane.

It's saying something given the year we've all had that VAR is still up there with the worst things of 2020.

How on earth was Lucas Moura meant to not handball that?!

What a goal it is. If you didn't know what type of play Sheffield United play with overlaps... Basham got to the byeline. The cut back was perfect. Sander Berge had the composure. Wonderful finish from a wonderful move.

It was the way they worked the goal. The understanding.

    Always rated him!

What a really good goal this is. A lovely flowing move, Sander Berge was involved to first turn and play the ball out wide. When Chris Basham cuts the ball back, Berge has made progress into the area, his first touch takes him away from a defender, and then from a tight angle he drills in.

A not too pleasant Euro 2016 flashback there as Harry Kane tries a free-kick from nearing 40 yards, toe bunging it into the stands.
