I'm not surprised Andy Caroll is starting the game today. Newcastle can go direct and he can hold the ball up more than Joel Linton can.

Just a reminder that teams who make it through to the last four are guarenteed £900,000 in prize money. Semi-finals winners get £1.8m.

I'd fancy a bit of that.

  4. Are there replays?published at 18:25 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

Remember, there's no replays at this stage of the competition.

If this finishes level after 90 minutes, there will be an additional 30 minutes of extra time.

A penalty shootout will decide the winner if it's still level after 120 minutes.

How can Steve Bruce and Newcastle approach this game with so many top players for Man City on display? Newcastle will have made sure they were strong and fast in training in preparation for the game. One thing Steve Bruce always used to say was 'they may have the ball more than us but we'll always run more than them.'

  6. 'We must learn from our mistakes in the game'published at 18:23 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, speaking to BBC Sport: "The result was satisfying and getting to the semis was satisfying. We weren't our usual selves today. We were below what we usually produce. But I am happy with the result. We won the game and must learn from some of the mistakes in our game.

"I don't want to sound too down after this. You have to show the grit to get a win when you don't play well. We go on to the next one. We can park the Cup and focus on getting the league wins to be in the Champions League."

On taking off young players at half-time: "It is a learning experience. I could have taken more off, or other players off. I am not pulling those out on their own. They will be top players for this club and have top careers. But if I have to do something in games I will do it. It was one of those games where I had to do something. They will take it on the chin.

"We were gifting Leicester space and ease to win the ball back. We are fortunate they didn't take those chances. All thee subs, in their own way, livened up the performance.

On Ross Barkley: "I love to work with the midfield players and the ones who want to get forward. Ross has a better left foot than me. He is always going to be a goal threat."

  10. 'We deserved more than that'published at 18:17 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Chelsea

    Leicester City

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers to BBC Sport: "I thought the performance was very good, much more like us in terms of tempo and speed and pressing.

"We know we can score goals, but in these first three games since the restart we haven't been as clinical at the top end. I was so pleased for the boys in terms of the performance.

"We just haven't been able to take those opportunities. We switch off for one second and they get the goal. I feel for the players because I think they deserved more than that.

On James Maddison's injury: "We'll look at that - he'll be a doubt (for Everton on Wednesday). If he's not fit for midweek he'll be fit for the weekend."

  12. City going for the doublepublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

Newcastle v Man City (18:30 BST)

City are also going after a seventh FA Cup, after picking up the domestic treble last season, and they could do the double this year having already won the Carabao Cup.

They will be hoping to do it a little easier than last season, when they had to come from two goals down to beat Swansea in the quarter-finals.

Since losing to Wigan in the fifth round in February 2018, City have won their last nine FA Cup matches by an aggregate score of 35-4.

Newcastle v Man City (18:30 BST)

    Alistair Magowan
BBC Sport at St James' Park

Newcastle are unbeaten in five games since Steve Bruce decided to switch from five at the back to a flat back-four.

But he's gone for a more cautious approach today, perhaps mindful of a Manchester City side who will want to stay alive in their two remaining cup competitions, having yielded the Premier League to Liverpool.

The players are out on the pitch to Duel by Propaganda (ask your dad, Emma) with Manchester City opting for their rave kit. Will Bruce's formation be able to break up the holders' moves?

  16. 'Newcastle fans deserve trophy'published at 18:08 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

Newcastle v Man City (18:30 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Newcastle captain Alan Shearer speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It’s been a long time but these Newcastle fans deserve something.

"When we played in the cup finals against Arsenal and Manchester United, we had a parade of fans giving us a huge welcome for being beaten in the final - so could you imagine if they won it?!

"It will happen one day and I want to be alive to see it. I said to my son 'I hope I’m around to see Newcastle finally win a trophy!"

On Newcastle's chances in the quarter-final: "They're in with a chance.

"They’ll make it difficult for Manchester City but we know that they’re not going to see a lot of the ball.

"Man City will have to have an off day and Newcastle will have to have a little bit of luck, we know that because there is a huge difference in terms of ability in the teams...but you just never know."

  18. Can Newcastle upset City?published at 18:04 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

Newcastle v Man City (18:30 BST)

So what are Newcastle's chances of overthrowing defending champions Manchester City?

They are chasing a seventh FA Cup trophy and this is their first quarter-final since 2006.

The last time they reached this stage they lost 1-0 to Chelsea, ending Alan Shearer's hopes of winning a trophy with Newcastle.

But this is Newcastle's best FA Cup run for 14 years and they are unbeaten in three of their last four home games against City.

If they do make it to Wembley, it'll be their first FA Cup semi-final since 2004-5, when they reached the last four under Graeme Souness.

  19. 'We're always going to get goals'published at 18:02 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea goalscorer Ross Barkley on BT Sport: "I thought we weren't at our best. There were a lot of things we could have done better.

"When you get in the box the chances are there. Getting in the box we’re always going to get goals. We won the game, it’s the most important thing.

"At half-time we said it's not good enough and to be vocal on the pitch, and we improved."

  20. Postpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Chelsea

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Ross Barkley is fantastic and when I was at Leeds United, he was on loan and he was a joy to watch. The one thing for Ross is he can frustrate sometimes - it’s just his concentration levels.

When he’s on it and he is concentrated and you get the type of performance, he's hard to stop. He’s such a quick play at he moves so well with the ball.

It’s display they will have pleased Frank Lampard but it will have also infuriated him because he’ll be thinking 'I want that all the time' and that’s the level Ross has to get to.
