Steve Bruce is wanting to play the same system that Rafa Benetiz was playing during his tenure but at the minute, it's just one attack after another from City.

Andy Carroll doesn't hang about. He receives the ball a long way out and has a crack straight away.

It's a comfortable one for Claudio Bravo.

It was on Mahrez's favoured left foot and he should be hitting the target at the very least. He had time and space and it was very wasteful.

Mahrez shoots narrowly over the bar

Kevin de Bruyne drives into space on the right of midfield and plays it through to David Silva on the far side of the box.

He waits for Riyad Mahrez' run before teeing him up by the Algerian curls it wide.

Decent chance! City have started well.

Raheem Sterling slips it left to Benjamin Mendy, whose control lets him down. He sees Javier Manquillo charging at him and panics a little - flashing an effort over the bar from a tight angle.

That needed to come back across goal there.

Riyad Mahrez lines himself up for a shot on his left foot... well charged down on the edge of the box. Decent block!

  9. Does Newcastle's formation play into City's hands?published at 18:40 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

This is the issue for Newcastle when they play five at the back. While it allows them to get numbers behind the ball, when they do get it via one of their forward players such as Allan Saint-Maximin, there is only one player ahead of him and then they lose it again. Does the formation play into City's hands?

The most vocal player on the pitch so far is City keeper Claudio Bravo.

Have supported Newcastle for 55 years and yet to see them win the FA Cup. Or any domestic trophy. The semi-final line up is already boringly predictable. I'd love it, love it if we could spring a surprise tonight.

The Fruit Salads (Man City) are dominating the ball, as expected, but Benjamin Mendy's pass is a sloppy one.

It goes through everyone and straight out for a goal kick.

City getting so much space here, knocking it around at will. You've got to get into their faces but Newcastle are just happy to sit on the edge of their own box. You get the feeling City will want to respond today after Liverpool winning the league this week.

Kevin de Bruyne feeds it into the feet of David Silva. He plays an intricate pass to Riyad Mahrez on the edge of the box but it won't fall for Gabriel Jesus.

There is already more intensity to this game than the one at the King Power.

Brilliant stuff from Allan Saint-Maximin. He does a maradona turn to get away from Gabriel Jesus in his own half.

Keeping possession, he slips it right and Javier Manquillo tries to get in behind. He's just offside.

Aymeric Laporte and Andy Carroll have their first duel in the air. It's Laporte who comes off worse as he took one to the chin.

He'll get checked over by the medical staff but he's up on his feet and should be okay.

Quick start from City! A ball is whipped in from the left and David Silva lets it run through his legs.

It doesn't quite fall for Riyad Mahrez but Kyle Walker has gone and won a corner.
