Johnboy: re Dave in Bristol, hasnt Eddie Howe tried Burnley and it didn't end well for him?

Paul: Eddie howe already managed Burnley. And it didn't work out because of "personal reasons". He didn't work last time so why would Burnley want him back?

Baz: Re Carl 18:08 Eddie Howe did manage Burnley for about a month.. too cold up North.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 18:30 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

    West Ham 0-0 Burnley

Massive, massive chance for West Ham!

Burnley fail to pick up Tomas Soucek ghosting through their area as Ryan Fredericks' cross comes in but Soucek's volley is straight at Nick Pope.

Best chance of the game so far.

It is games like this you miss the fans massively.

West Ham need a bit of a spark and could really do with the fans to be around them.

As well as urgency and creativity, Foden and KDB make an immense difference to the City press.

Still not too much going on. It's looped over the top for Billy Sharp to chase but Rui Patricio will pick it up.

    Man City 2-0 Newcastle

Interesting to see Pep Guardiola demanding more from his players during the drinks break. He wants no let up in their attacking intent.

Newcastle have barely got out of their own half.

Josh Earl: KDB has to win player of the year, absolutely head and shoulders above anyone else in the league, complete different class. It doesn't matter who's won the league, it's an individual award.

Matt Price: Steve Bruce has only done a good job because he had money to spend. Rafa has been wrongly vilified even though he did the best job with the team he had. Had he been given the money he wanted, they would have done better under him. Will argue this for long as needed

    West Ham 0-0 Burnley

Michail Antonio charges at the Burnley defence before bending a shot towards goal but it is blocked in a congested area.

The Hammers are finding it tough to break down their opponents and are yet to manage a shot on target.

    West Ham 0-0 Burnley

David Moyes won't be happy. He will want a higher tempo.

Burnley have created the two best chances. Moyes will want more from his team and to make a statement by moving seven points clear of the bottom three.

Both Steve Bruce and Pep Guardiola have their coats on now because of the chill in the air.

  13. 'Sloppy start'published at 18:22 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

    West Ham 0-0 Burnley

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Both teams have been sloppy in possession so far and giving the ball away.

But it has been entertaining, as both sides are trying to get the ball down and play in the right way.

  14. Postpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

Bit scrappy now in this one with both sides struggling to win the midfield battle.

  15. goal

GOAL - Man City 2-0 Newcastlepublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

    Riyad Mahrez (21 mins)

Manchester City are in the mood!

Lovely football again from the hosts as Kevin de Bruyne cuts the ball back on the left side of the box, it goes behind Gabriel Jesus but there's Riyad Mahrez to tuck home.

  16. Postpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

    Sheffield United 0-0 Wolves

Oliver McBurnie gets in front of his man and meets the cross from the left but he doesn't generate enough power and his header is straight at Rui Patricio.

That's the best chance so far though.

  17. Postpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

Four goals since the restart for Phil Foden - all of them at the Etihad - and he eyes up a fifth as he breaks through the defence on the right but he sweeps his shot wide of the far post.

Re Carl 18:08. With both Bournemouth and Burnley needing a refresh, why don't they swap managers? Granted a change of style required for both clubs but both managers are used to working on a tight budget.

    Dave, Bristol

    Interesting...

  19. Postpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

    Sheffield United 0-0 Wolves

Adama Traore gets away on the right but there's two defenders tracking back. He doesn't quite have time to shoot so cuts inside in the box.

He manages to chip it through to Raul Jimenez but it's an awkward height so the Mexican has to chest it down and the ball rolls away from him.

Diogo Jota and Jimenez link-up moments later and Wolves have their first corner of the evening.
