Here come the sides, lovely sunny evening down on the south coast. It's been a windy day at Turf Moor and Anfield, let's see about St Mary's. My garden fence sounds like it could take off at any moment.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl on BBC One: "We're looking to take as many points as possible. We have some interesting fixtures and it's always a big pleasure to play against maybe the best team in the world. It's always nice to have a week to prepare for the game."

On what they'll need to do to beat City: "We're going to need to do more running, fighting and speaking and be brave on the ball. We're going to have to make good decisions and be clinical and to have some luck to not concede. We're going to need some luck when they are in front of goal too."

On Danny Ings: "He feels very comfortable with the ball, he's hard working for the team and he has self confidence at the moment so maybe when he's in front of goal he's one of the best strikers in the Premier League at the moment."

John Stones has been at Manchester City four years now but it seems he still is not first choice. Now or never?

I really like Eric Garcia - he played really well against Liverpool. John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi haven't made that position their own and Garcia is one for the future. I still think they need to buy someone for that position though.

David Silva is just amazing. The word legend gets thrown around a lot but for me, he is a true legend. When he first came into the dressing room he was so humble and in the first training session I could just see the difference in quality and that we'd taken it up a notch. He comes with no ego and works harder than any player I've ever worked with. What makes him a player is his consistency.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on BBC One: "We play every three days and we've got a lot of games ahead and all of the players are adjusting the way they play and train.

"I'm very impressed with the way Southampton responded to the 9-0 defeat against Leicester, they are out of danger and thinking about a top, top position."

On David Silva: "He is an absolute legend. To stay and survive in this league is not easy, that says a lot about David and his mentality. He is an exceptional player and he is going to enjoy his last moments in England."

    Alan Shearer
Former Newcastle captain on BBC One

Southampton have the worst home record in the league because they are a counter-attacking team. They find that difficult to replicate at home.

But, I don't think that will be too difficult tonight because they know what Manchester City will do.

Alan Shearer says he was on £27 a week when he started out at Southampton. How times have changed!

The Saints are safe this season but have a wretched home record. A win tonight would perk that up.

The last time the BBC had a live league game from Southampton it would have been at the Dell and that weird decreasing stand behind the goal and the shallowest nets in history.

City is going to be a tough game, a lot of work will have to go in tactically, they can control games from start to finish so we will have to try and disrupt their rhythm.

I love to run around and win the ball back but it can be frustrating in those games when you are sitting deeper. I see it as a huge challenge playing against a giant team like that.

David Silva is a special player, so enjoy watching him while you can. I know he's loved by City fans and appreciated far beyond Etihad Stadium, but I'm still not sure he quite gets all the wider accolades he deserves for what he's brought to English football since he arrived in 2010.

He's won the Premier League under three different managers, Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola, and they all built their team around him. That's how good he is and, at 34, he is still as influential as ever.

When I think of how City go on the attack, tearing teams apart with fast feet and trademark slick passing, I think of David. Life without him is going to be very strange when he leaves at the end of the season.
