  1. 'Sancho lacking confidence'published at 21:05 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Denmark 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Jadon Sancho obviously does well in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund but in an England shirt he's lacking a bit of confidence.

He has to start taking players on. He has good technique and pace, but he has got to take players on.

If he's going to progress in an England shirt, he has to start doing that.

    England growing into the game?

Harry Kane takes a touch and smashes a low shot which is blocked.

    Hit and hope really.

  3. 'Southgate got the balance wrong'published at 21:03 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Denmark 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Some people like three at the back. It's been proven a good system by certain teams.

But Southgate hasn't got the balance of the side right tonight.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 60 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

    Change for England.

Mason Mount on to replace Jadon Sancho.

Doesn't change the shape though, does it!

What's Danish for 'You don't know what you're doing?'

    Pat from Herts

Once England get it out of their half everything falters. Time to mix up the system.

    Mark, Lewes

Southgate is barking mad if he doesn't bring Grealish on now...it's been painful to watch with him on the bench for the last game and a half, give him a run out!

  7. CLOSE!published at 58 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

Denmark have been the more threatening but a low drive from Tommy Delaney from range is gobbled up by Jordan Pickford.

  8. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

Zero attempts from England so far in the second half.

Fair to say, things have not improved.

    Belgium 3-1 Iceland

There's such a lot of attacking talent in this Belgium squad - Dries Mertens, hero of Naples, makes it 3-1.

Mike W: One of the most toothless performances I've seen from England. What do you expect with such a defensive team selection?

Robert Weaver: I agree with Chris Waddle. I just don't understand all the hype over Jadon Sancho. He's got potential, but at the moment he's nothing special.

Scott: Feel sorry for Kalvin Phillips, not his fault but more Yorkshire Potato than Yorkshire Pirlo in this formation

Matt: Kalvin Phillips by far the best English player on the pitch tonight.

  11. YELLOW CARDpublished at 52 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

Bit more urgency from England but still making few inroads.

Denmark striker Martin Braithwaite is booked for a late hack from behind on Harry Kane.

    Gotta love professional footballers.

Grown men who get touched on the shoulder and go down like they've been snipered on the St Petrograd map.

Brooklyequestrian: Two holding midfielders and a centre back in midfield and we wonder why we lack creativity! All we do is switch out to treat who cross to nobody because we have zero runners from midfield! At least bring on Grealish to break the lines and support Kane.

Fetch Fletcher: this whole England squad is a mess. No real left back, Trippier playing out of position, no semblance of a creative midfielder in the side, the worst keeper in the squad starting. England will be lucky if this stays 0-0.

Scott Crane: I feel like England have gone backwards 6 years during lockdown. Another turgid half of football.

  14. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Denmark 0-0 England

Gareth Southgate keeps faith with the same XI.

    No changes.

Off we go for the second half.

  15. 'Sancho doesn't go anywhere'published at 20:46 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Denmark 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

We had this on Saturday. Raheem Sterling played alright on Saturday but he's not had much joy tonight. But he's tried.

Jadon Sancho just fronts people up, turns around and passes back. I've never seen a winger get one-on-one more than him and I've seen him go past one on Saturday and not once tonight.

He's obviously fearful of losing the ball or he doesn't think he can take the man on. We know he has great technique but he doesn't go anywhere.

  16. 'Get Grealish and Mount on'published at 20:42 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Denmark 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Looking at the first half I'd say for half an hour it was a null and void game. There was nothing happening. For the last 15 minutes, Denmark were the better side.

England have to change it at half-time. You don't need two anchors in the middle of the park. I'm sorry, you don't.

It was very, very poor. England look too rigid - there's no movement. You need creativity and you need to get Jack Grealish or Mason Mount on at half-time.

If it was me, I'd get both of them on.

  18. A classic midfield battle...published at 20:39 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Denmark 0-0 England

The first half summed up in one graphic?

The average position stats show both sides have been locked in a midfield battle for much of the opening 45 minutes.

  19. Southgate needs to make changespublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Copenhagen

It would be a real surprise if England manager Gareth Southgate left things as they were after a turgid first 45 minutes.

Sterile formation not working. No supply for England's attackers?

Surely time for a touch of creation from someone like Jack Grealish?

    Utterly grim stuff from England.
