  1. 'Game passing Phillips by'published at 20:14 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Denmark 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I said it would be hard for [Kalvin Phillips]. I thought he'd be nervous and I think the game has passed him by if I'm honest.

England haven't had a good player on the pitch tonight. We haven't seen anyone who has stuck out on the ball and been creative.

[Phillips has] been alright. He's not really caught the eye and I think the game has passed him by a few times - but I don't think England as a team have played well.

Anyone watched the Spurs documentary on Amazon?

Do you find captain Harry Kane's team talks inspiring?

    Denmark 0-0 England

Let's try not being too harsh, but this has been turgid from England so far.

Matt Andrews: This match is calling out for some creativity in the midfield. If only we had a lad called Grealish on the bench...

Richard Browne: I find it astonishing the goodwill the World Cup bought Southgate. We were rubbish, but lucky. And it's continued since. Luck runs out.

Kieran Trippier is a right-back playing at left-back.

It means when he gets the ball in the final third, he's facing the wrong way and has to pass to backwards.

    Denmark 0-0 England

England had just one touch inside Denmark's box in the opening 20 minutes.

  8. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

Denmark pushing on again with a sea of red shirts.

Christian Eriksen feeds Daniel Wass whose dangerous cross is not dealt with by the England defenders and the ball ricochets off Yussuf Poulsen and away from goal.

  9. 'England too narrow'published at 20:05 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Denmark 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm looking at the system and England are too narrow.

They're flat, there's nobody coming off the back four and it's very easy for Denmark to mark them.

  10. CLOSE!published at 18 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

Nice from Kasper Dolberg, running at the heart of the England defence.

He turns Eric Dier inside out on the edge of the box but his rasping strike sails inches over the crossbar.

    Jordan Pickford was worried.

  11. Eddie at it againpublished at 20:04 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Austria U21 0-1 England U21

He scored a hat-trick the other day and now Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has scored again for the England Under-21s.

That puts him on 12 goals for the side - just one behind the record, held by Alan Shearer and Francis Jeffers.

Snookered: Coady for England is just like Captain Coady for Wolves. Always communicating, always cajoling, always keeping everyone concentrated. Born leader.

Adam Kitchiner: Can't get inspired by this English team. No creativity in midfield. Forward 3 will have a tough night.

  13. 'Very, very poor'published at 20:03 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Denmark 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I have to say, the level for an international football match is very, very poor.

There is just nobody taking control of the ball or dictating the play.

Once they get past the halfway line, both teams just run out of ideas.

  14. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

Lovely play from Trent Alexander-Arnold, bombing down the right and putting a nicely, shaped cross into the danger area but safe hands Kasper Schmeichel does well to grab it cleanly.

  15. Lovren on songpublished at 20:03 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    France 0-1 Croatia

He didn't score many for Liverpool but Dejan Lovren has put Croatia ahead in the 2018 World Cup replay.

Belgium are beating Iceland now, by the way.

Steve Phillips: England going for a new formation this 7-0-3. Can’t help but think the euphoria of a good World Cup has been lost with the recent selections!!

Patrick McNally: Almost like everyone can see it's an incredibly negative midfield we've started with.

  17. Latestpublished at 20:00 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Belgium 1-1 Iceland

    Good side, Iceland.

They take a (relatively) shock lead against Belgium, Samuel Fridjonsson scoring, but it doesn't take long for Axel Witsel to level things up.

  18. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

First shot at goal comes from the hosts.

Robert Skov tries giving Jordan Pickford the eye from 30+ yards out, but smashes the free-kick into the empty stand behind the England goalkeeper's goal.

It came after a clumsy foul from Declan Rice.

  19. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

Oooh, England try to work a corner straight from the training ground.

Kieran Trippier drills it in low towards Raheem Sterling in the centre, who had peeled away from his marker, but the Manchester City man scuffs a shot which is blocked.

  20. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Denmark 0-0 England

10 minutes in, the two sides just jabbing at each other.

Neither has swung a punch so far.
