There's too much football at the minute. I feel for the players. We're talking about the top level here. There's just too much football.

Everytime the camera pans to Dries Merterns, the Napoli man is trying his utmost to rid something that is firmly lodged inside his nose.

It's a bit like that scene when Fatima Whitbread had a cockroach stuck up her hooter in I'm A Celeb.

England are pressing Belgium and they are not enjoying it. It's the way they can get back in the game. The gameplan has been good from England but they have just been unfortunate.

    Nope, Ben Chilwell cannot continue.

A back injury has ended his evening early, on comes Arsenal's Bukayo Saka in his place.

Ben Chilwell is back on his feet, rather gingerly, and is holding his lower back area.

Hmm, let's see if he can run it off.

    Uh oh.

Ben Chilwell is down on the deck and needs attention from the physios.

Not a good sight for Gareth Southgate or Frank Lampard.

  7. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

    Belgium 2-0 England

Belgium's last ditch defending is excellent.

Jack Grealish does get on the ball and picks out Mason Mount six yards out, but the Chelsea midfielder's volley is blocked superbly by skipper Jan Vertonghen.

Belgium's golden generation is getting on a bit now.

    2014 - Quarter-finals

    2016 - Quarter-finals

    2018 - Third-place

Should a crop of players which has featured Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku to name a few have done better?

Cedric David: You can say whatever you want about Belgium, but you would expect Lukaku or De Bruyne to be the major threats. In the end they always find a surprising way to strike from (so many) other players if needed.

I thought England were playing alright. I didn't think there was anything wrong with the performance but since the second goal has gone in, England have dropped right off the pace. The next goal is crucial. If they can get one back then they are back in it.

England sniff an opening as Harry Kane's cross from wide on the right sails all the way across for Ben Chilwell at the far post.

The Chelsea defender tries to lob it back into the six yard box towards Jack Grealish, but Belgium are able to clear.

It's ideal for a right-footer. Kevin de Bruyne said to Dries Mertens, it's all yours. Could the wall have jumped? I don't think they did? It's a massive wall too. Every wall should jump in my eyes. If they jump, they head it. Jordan Pickford has no chance.

    Dries Mertens

    Great hit!

Napoli man Dries Mertens steps up, curls a free-kick perfectly over the wall and into the corner.

Jordan Pickford had no chance and Mertens runs off to celebrate with manager Roberto Martinez.

But big questions over referee Danny Makkelie's decision to award a free-kick there. A real howler from the Dutchman.

England have it all to do now.

Declan Rice comes in hard on Kevin de Bruyne, CLEARLY winning the ball as the Manchester City midfielder is about to shoot from the edge of the box but the referee feels it's a foul and Belgium have a free-kick in dangerous territory.
