Is that Luiz in a back 4 with Maitland-Niles as a centre-mid ahead of them? Big, big call. The pessimist in me says AMN tries too hard to prove himself to Arteta and gets sent off.

David Huggan, Sydney: Amazing that the FA Cup still features the last 4 winners of the trophy. It proves the big clubs still take this wonderful competition seriously.

The atmosphere here at a deserted Wembley could not be further from the usual FA Cup semi-final occasion - but Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola have both picked sides befitting the occasion.

Manchester City won the domestic treble last season and are still hoping to add the FA Cup and Champions League to the League Cup won earlier this season.

Arteta is formulating his plans for the future as Arsenal manager but this is a chance to make a significant statement against the club he left in December to take over at Emirates Stadium.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola: "We try to play every game to win, I don't know what system Arsenal will play today but they have been solid and consistent in recent weeks.

"They are a good team spirit, everyone follows the manager and you can see that. It's a beautiful competition - you know better than me."

I don't know about where you are but the weather has been rank where I live all day. Got totally and utterly soaked on a long dog walk this morning.

But in reference to my opening entry I can confirm that it is a lovely sunny evening at Wembley. Pep Guardiola is here in jeans and a t-shirt.

  8. Can the Gunners get into Europe?published at 18:56 British Summer Time 18 July 2020

    Arsenal

Arsenal will be guaranteed a Europa League group place if they win the FA Cup - they face Manchester City in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Their win over Liverpool on Wednesday keeps their hopes of qualifying through the league alive - they are three points off sixth place and two below seventh.

Andrew The Hinckley Gooner: Big test for Mikel Arteta today. If we can keep a full team on the pitch and not make any stupid defensive errors then we can win

  10. Aubameyang inpublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 18 July 2020

Arsenal v Manchester City (19:45 BST)

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta left out a few of his big guns against Liverpool, well his biggest gun anyway, and then went on to see his side win.

Anyway, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starts at Wembley, he's one of five changes. Also back are Mustafi, Bellerin, Ceballos and Maitand-Niles.

  15. 'Arteta has a huge job on his hands'published at 18:41 British Summer Time 18 July 2020

Arsenal v Man City (19:45 BST)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Mikel Arteta has so much to do at Arsenal.

He has a huge job on his hands to make this team serious contenders once again.

An FA Cup this season would help. I don't think they'll make the top seven in the Premier League so they will need the FA Cup to reach Europe - and I do think that would be progress.

  17. We're not really here...published at 18:37 British Summer Time 18 July 2020

Arsenal v Manchester City (19:45 BST)

Manchester City have won 10 of their past 12 FA Cup semi-final matches, with their two defeats in that time coming against Arsenal (1932 and 2017).

  18. Familiar groundpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 18 July 2020

Arsenal v Manchester City (19:45 BST)

Arsenal are playing in their 30th FA Cup semi-final - no side has played in more. They've reached the final on 20 occasions, which is also a joint record (level with Manchester United for both).

Standing in their way tonight? Oh, only Manchester City...

  19. A different kind of semi-finalpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 18 July 2020

Arsenal v Manchester City (19:45 BST)

It should be the second week of April, Grand National day preferably.

It should be sunny, it should be at Villa Park. It should certainly be at 3pm.

Instead we're at an empty Wembley on a Saturday night in late July for the first FA Cup semi-final of this never-ending season. What on earth is 2020 continuing to do to us all?
