Arsenal shouldn’t even have celebrated until they get a second goal

    Adam, Brighton

Just looking at the league table is quite narrow minded. Our results and performances have improved since Arteta came!

  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 54 mins

    Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City

That's a brilliant save! Riyad Mahrez on the right wing, he gets inside Ainsley Maitland-Niles this time and clubs a low shot at the near post. He hits that so well, but Emi Martinez gets down well and stops it dead with one hand. Superb.

That will count as City's first effort on target. Kevin de Bruyne, once again, firing in a lovely ball from deep on the right and Benjamin Mendy clubbing a volleyed cross/shot that Emiliano Martinez has to pat down.

Kevin de Bruyne is suddenly omnipresent. On the right this time, low cross to the near post but well cleared away by David Luiz.

Richard Browne: Arsenal were battered and played off the pitch by Liverpool. Won. This is clearly Arteta's new tactic.

Rezaa Sait: It's not a revival. It's simply Arteta making Arsenal a better team. He's improving the scraps left to him by Emery & Wenger. Give him his own transfer window and watch them improve.

  6. CLOSE!published at 49 mins

    Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City

Still no shot on target for City but that is close! Kevin de Bruyne the architect, drifts out left and gets free and then plays a lovely pass inside. Through the eye of a needle stuff, Raheem Sterling arrives on it, sidefoots it into the corn...no!

    Sidefoots it wide. Just wide.

Pep Guardiola sent Manchester City out early like naughty school boys.

I expect a real response from Manchester City in this second half. They cannot play as badly again...

What can City do to respond then? They almost get Riyad Mahrez in behind straight away but he can't gather the ball in.

So far so good for Arsenal, but I'll be surprised if it stays 1-0, I'm thinking we'll need a second goal as I can't see City not scoring. As for Pep not being bothered, that's nonsense, he collects silverware.

    Sparky, Swindon

Arsenal are 10th in the league. I repeat 10th. What revival are the Arsenal fans talking about ?

    Nick.

We are so much better without Ozil drifting around and slowing down our attacks when we have the ball and doing nothing when we don't.

  15. 'Pep will be furious with City performance'published at 20:44 British Summer Time 18 July 2020

    Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal had the big opportunity with Aubameyang when he should have scored - and you thought their chance had been wasted. He took his next opportunity incredibly well.

You've got to say they deserve their lead and Manchester City have work to do.

City were so dominant but Arsenal had a game plan to sit deep. Arsenal just grew in confidence and City were way off. I can't remember many games this season where they have been so poor in their ball retention.

The question is can Arsenal repeat that performance and are Manchester City going to be as bad as they were in the first half?

I'm sure City will respond but this is a bit of a head scratcher. This doesn't happen very often [to Manchester City]. I expect Pep Guardiola will be absolutely furious with that first half performance.

  16. Arsenal grow into the gamepublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 18 July 2020

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

If you watched the first 10 minutes you would have said only one winner here - Manchester City.

    Not a bit of it.

Arsenal grew in confidence and control, got the goal, and will be delighted with that first 45 minutes.

Manchester City became more sloppy and ineffectual as the halt went on. Big half-time team talk for Pep Guardiola.

TheFishMonger: This is actually superb play from Arsenal FC. All Arteta needs is a little more backing from the board for next season.

David Robert Tomlinson: City to get a roasting at half-time and they’ll be on fire second half.

He has, a passing accuracy of just 61% from the brilliant Belgian so far.

City on the whole off their game, or are they just being made to look bad by the Arsenal?

    Compelling half.
