    Man City 0-1 Lyon

Kyle Walker charges into Maxwel Cornet in an attempt to win the ball - the goalscorer appears to be clipped by the foot of the full-back and drops to the turf.

At the other end, another shot from Marcal finds the gloves of compatriot Ederson.

    Man City 0-1 Lyon

De Bruyne curls the ball over the wall.

Anthony Lopes guesses the direction correctly but perhaps is a little bit too Hollywood with his save. Effective though.

A shot on target for Guardiola's men! Whoop!

    OK.

    City have a free-kick about 25 yards out, centre-left.

    Step up Kevin de Bruyne.

Paul Collins: I really don't think Bayern Munich will be worried about playing either of these 2.

It's a yellow for Rodri after he leaves midfielder Bruno Guimaraes on the deck.

It's all a bit bitty from the English side.

Lyon clear again. This is so easy for them.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 57 mins

The Lyon centre backs have barely made a mistake. Rocks.

City have another corner but they make a change before the kick...

Riyad Mahrez comes on for Fernandinho, who was on a booking.

If Pep just stopped messing about and just played a 4-3-3 with his players in their correct positions, like usual, they'd probably win this game comfortably.

    Lee, Glos

I don't understand why Pep didn't start with Silva, get the early lead and counter attack anything Lyon attempted.

    Man City 0-1 Lyon

Another corner, although Leo Dubois maybe should have had a shout because nobody was behind him.

City fail to conjure anything from it after Fernandinho concedes another free-kick. It didn't look like there was much contact between the Brazilian and Ivorian Maxwel Cornet.

    Man City 0-1 Lyon

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Manchester City need much, much more.

When you think how important this game is, how hard you've worked to get to this position, and it looks like they're just letting it slip away.

It must be so frustrating for Man City fans listening to and watching this.

    Man City 0-1 Lyon

Fairly aimless balls from City from both wings, but they do earn a corner.

    What now?

  12. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Man City 0-1 Lyon

City have the ball wide on the right - instead of attacking the line Kyle Walker comes in and finds Raheem Sterling, but the Lyon players soon surround their counterparts and the move breaks down after Kevin de Bruyne's ball finds no-one.

So Kevin de Bruyne is playing very high up in the middle. Number 10ish.

I'd rather throw on Foden and Silva and lose than watch this.

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm very surprised [Pep Guardiola has made no changes]. They've looked flat, it looks like the shape isn't working.

At the minute you're waiting for some magic from Raheem Sterling or Kevin De Bruyne.

Pep Guardiola could have made about three changes but he hasn't made one.

  16. Postpublished at 46 mins

    Man City 0-1 Lyon

A corner inside the first minute of the second half for Lyon thanks to good work by Karl Toko Ekambi.

    Kevin de Bruyne thumps clear.

Robin P Young: Ligue One and Bundesliga are quick to be dismissed by arrogant La Liga/PL fans. This CL run has proven why both should be taken seriously.

Joe Garside: Without aguero man city look toothless

They've been OK without Aguero in other games tbf.

Mark Burt: Pep is, hands down, the best plan A coach in the world but as soon as a plan B or C is needed, the magic fades somewhat. Still fancy City to win though.

Andrew Dickson: So if you had (arguably) one of the best squads in the world, why would you change your style against a seemingly lesser opponent? Surely they need to deal with yours.

Andy Sugden: Guardiola seems to be making same mistake Ferguson made with Utd in setting up team to counter opposition rather than playing to their own strengths & trusting that his players are just better than Lyon's

  20. Aouar-t of orderpublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Man City 0-1 Lyon

Houssem Aouar was fouled four times in the first half. Only Marco Verratti (21) has been fouled more times in the CL this season than Aouar (20).
