  2. 'City yet to turn up'published at 20:51 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

It's not the Manchester City we normally watch week in, week out. They've not really turned up yet.

They've had a couple of half chances but Lyon are frustarting them and they carry that threat of their own down the sides and with balls over the top.

They have to change the system. They have to get one, if not two, substitutes on at half time.

The curse of Lyon strikes again. It seems like Pep Guardiola tried to set his team up to combat how the French side would play, but it hasn't worked.

    Changes needed?

I think Lyon will be delighted, their game plan is working.

Manchester City have to take someone off and get another midfielder on.

They have to play a quicker tempo to get back into this game.

Kevin de Bruyne plays a wonderful bending ball into the area which finds Raheem Sterling - his shot, which seemed to be going off target, is blocked heroically by goalscorer Maxwel Cornet.

Desalegn Hailemariam: What are the odds on Pep Guardiola rejoining Barca this summer to start rebuilding the Catalans? Especially if City bow out of the CL tonight.

Abid: This formation definitely isn't working. City play well when they have width but with no Mahrez or Bernardo Silva on there is absolutely nothing happening on the right wing and Walker hasn't driven forward enough. They need one more attacking player on.

John McMahon: Lyon are doing to Man City exactly what Arsenal did in the FA Cup semi-final, with the back 5 and harrying, deep-but-fast-breaking midfield. Their goal even came through an over-the-top ball down that same inside-left channel.

Raheem Sterling, this time on the right, sends his markers off to the coffee shop for some pastel de nata and pulls the ball back for Rodri whose shot is straight at Anthony Lopes.

    A good chance.

Pep has been burnt a few times in Europe. It has caused him to be more conservative than usual. This is not going well.

Four minutes until half-time and Pep Guardiola's side don't look like scoring.

    They have possession again though.

Kevin de Bruyne again goes for goal from an acute angle - it's a simple rabbit punch for Anthony Lopes.

Note to De Bruyne: must do better.

  15. 'City must get De Bruyne involved'published at 20:39 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Man City 0-1 Lyon

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Manchester City have to get Kevin De Bruyne in the game.

He's playing out on the right and he's not getting on the ball in the areas you'd want him to.

They need to bring Riyad Mahrez or Bernardo Silva on to play them on the right instead and free De Bruyne up.

Jason Denayer has played brilliantly on his right marking Raheem Sterling, but this time he gives away a free-kick.

Houssem Aouar once again feels the force of Fernandinho, who leads with his arm going for an aerial ball. Looked accidental.

Lyon have pressed magnificently - but will they tire in the second half?

City keep on searching for an equaliser before HT. There are about 10 minutes remaining.

Michael Reid: Fernandinho is really quickly became City's week link (no fault of his own; being played out of position). Just don't get why a team with a blank checkbook can be so vulnerable at the back.

Willem Mevius: Lyon well on top. Guardiola will have to make some changes soon.
