It's too early to say anything yet but if Lyon were to pull off something here, French teams would make up half of the final 4. Could it be time to give more respect to Ligue 1?

    Zac

Maybe if City fail tonight following Barcelona's annihilation everyone in the media will stop fawning over the Barca and Pep style of play , which quite frankly is boring !

No surprise City haven't the bottle in this competition in the latter stages

Fernandinho goes into the book for a foul on Houssem Aouar.

Nothing comes from the free-kick into the area.

    Now then.

So moments earlier had Houssem Aouar played a ball square rather than pull it back to no-one then Lyon might have extended the lead then.

At the other end, Kevin de Bruyne goes for goal with his free-kick from a very tight angle - keeper Anthony Lopes punches the ball away

Lyon are too quick for Manchester City.

The two forwards are far quicker than the players they're up against. It doesn't need to be complicated - you just need to get it long and beyond them.

They've done that, they've scored the goal and they've deserved it to a certain degree.

  7. goal

GOAL - Man City 0-1 Lyonpublished at 24 mins

    Maxwel Cornet

He's only gone and done it again!

The ball is played behind the line for Karl Toko Ekambi to run on to - Ederson comes halfway out as Eric Garcia puts a tackle in, but following up is Maxwel Cornet, who threads his curling shot into the near post from about 20 yards.

A superb finish - his fourth goal in three games against City!!!

  8. 'City a man down in midfield'published at 20:23 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

The biggest concern Pep Guardiola has is Manchester City are not controlling the game.

At their best, City are utterly dominant in a game and they are not dominant in this game.

I think it has something to do with the system, they're four against five in midfield - they're a man down.

Ash Williams: Guardiola has changed their formation to match Lyon. City are hoofing the ball clear more than normal. Could they come unstuck again?

Paul Collins: I'd like City win for being English. That side I also think it would be so funny if they lost purely because of the arrogance of you media people about them.

    Anyone?

That should have resulted in at least a decent effort on target for Lyon.

After patient play around the edges of the area, a quick ball is fed into Houssem Aouar who fails to find any of his team-mates with his pull-back - had he played it square it might have been a different story!!

A lot of players have already hit the turf in the match - neither team is giving the other an inch.

    Man City 0-0 Lyon

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Manchester City are playing too slow. It's a slow tempo, very slow.

It's very easy or Lyon at the minute to get a good shape, they've got time. City are keeping it moving but there's no tempo to their play.

    They're not asking any questions.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 13 mins

Leo Dubois picks up the first booking because of a late tackle on Joao Cancelo. Ref Danny Makkelie had made up his mind before the Lyon man had time to perfect his aggrieved look.

You can see how the game will pan out already.

City will find their success by utilising balls in behind the defence.

Lyon's game plan is to stop City but they're forgetting to play when they have the ball. They're just doing a job at the moment.

Kevin de Bruyne delivers his first ball with intent - a whipped cross from the right, but it's headed clear.

At the other end Lyon have a corner...

  18. Postpublished at 6 mins

Lyon are trying to play quite a high line, but that plays into the hands of someone like Raheem Sterling who will just find the space to run into.

    We shall see.

  19. 'Lyon's defensive concern'published at 20:06 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Man City 0-0 Lyon

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

We've seen already the concern for Lyon is their three centre-halves. They're not mobile at all.

Lyon do carry a threat and they're playing a high line, but the defence has no pace.

All this talk on 5L about city and Pep not achieving if they don't win the CL. It's a cup competition! Especially this year, means little. Last year Lpool and Spurs best teams in Europe?! No way.
