Are they though Matt (21:34)? Yeah they bring atmosphere and in certain situations can motivate you to get that goal in the last minute, BUT football is still being played and there's less pressure on the players. They're going out there and they're scoring goals.. teams like Arsenal/Everton etc look good without that external pressure they feel when ONE shot on goal goes wayward.

As a football fan who lives in Northern Ireland and could never afford to get to a Premier League match, I honestly haven't noticed any difference and couldn't care less. Fantastic start to the season though.

I agree with Darmesh. I'm an Arsenal supporter and our away form has been so much better since no fans.

Doesn't look like Sean Dyche is going to make a single change which probably tells you about his options...

    Burnley 0-1 Southampton

Burnley have a free-kick about 40 yards out. It's not much of a chance but it may be the best they get. And they do cause some danger, Jimmy Dunne's header across goal is a good one but Southampton defend well.

Now the Clarets have a corner though.

Southampton still haven't had a shot on target since the goal. Burnley have hardly been prolific in that regard. It's a slog.

I can't believe Dharmesh got one 'thumbs up' for his message, let alone 150+! Fans are the lifeblood of football, it's nowhere near the same without them.

Southampton replace Moussa Djenepo before he gets sent off and Che Adams also makes way. On come Nathan Tella and Michael Obafemi.

    Burnley 0-1 Southampton

Southampton put together a rare flowing move but Danny Ings' cross is well cut out and when Burnley try and break away Matej Vydra is swamped in midfield.

James Warren: RE: 21:16 - You learn not to get too excited with a positive result, until that whistle goes as a Saints fan! :-)

Jonathan Spencer: Dharmesh @ 21:16 - agreed on your point RE fans, does this disprove the notion that fans are really ‘the 12th man’? The current goalfest clearly proves that the players can motivate themselves without fans in the stadium.

Mike: I wonder if there are players out there who think to themselves, "I need to move the ball quicker. I'll wait until half-time and see if the manager thinks so too"?

I think Mike might be referring to quotes from Frank Lampard. Read the full report here of Chelsea's comeback to draw 3-3 at West Brom after going into half-time 3-0 down.

I've got two players missing from the Peru side in my 1978 World Cup sticker book. Southampton have furnished me with a solution I thought I'd never have. Good stuff.

Strange game... It's way past the time that Oriol Romeu usually gets booked...

Another clash between Moussa Djenepo and Phil Bardsley, I could see a red card coming from that wing before the end of play. Not sure I can see another goal though. The MOTD editors won't be under pressure to rush this one up the playlist at this rate.

Into the final 25 minutes then. Sean Dyche's options are beyond limited but he may be tempted into action soon.

Southampton haven't had a shot on target since they scored in the fifth minute. Thanks for coming. Che Adams almost gets in down the side but Jimmy Dunne does well to clear it away before Burnley win a free-kick in a decent spot.

James Warren: Well, Ings has done his job, as reliable as ever!! Now for the defence to do theirs, unreliable. I see a 1-1 draw or a 2-1 defeat. When will Saints defend like Ings attacks.

Any football fan will understand your pessimism, James. But my advice is to maybe work on your half-time team talk technique!

I'm going to say it. Some people might not like it but it seems that Premier League matches are better without fans. What a goal fest start to the season.

  18. GREAT SAVE!published at 58 mins

    Burnley 0-1 Southampton

Great save! Burnley are on it now, Dwight McNeil puts the ball into the mixer, it's cleared out to left-back Charlie Taylor and he cannons in a beauty of a shot which Alex McCarthy pushes away. That was really shifting!

VAR did look at that we think. It looked like Matej Vydra was offside but I'm not sure about Chris Wood.

  20. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 56 mins

    Burnley 0-1 Southampton

It's another one of those offsides where the flag goes up long after the play has finished. Chris Wood thought he had equalised after pouncing on a bad backpass and scoring but the flag was raised.

But was he offside? It looks pretty close...
