More from Frank Lampard, speaking with BBC Sport: "We have two big games coming up against Tottenham and Crystal Palace. I expect to see an improvement in our performances. But in terms of team fitness, it won't be until after the international break that I expect to see us up to our real level, especially in terms of on the ball, because we haven't had time to work on that yet."

  4. 'A big lesson for us today'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    West Brom 3-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard speaking to Sky Sports: "It is two points lost at the end of the day - and that's no disrespect to West Brom. You come here and you know the transition and any mistakes would be something they would jump on - that and set pieces. You can't legislate for the mistakes that there were today.

"It was mistakes, clear mistakes [that cost us]. You can have as many meetings as you want but with those mistakes you give yourself a mountain to climb. [We lacked] a bit if urgency in the team.

"We created two or three great chances in the first half. I felt we would create more, the only other problem at 3-0 was West Brom were going to protect their lead more. It is a big lesson for us. We will get a lot better, we're still finding our way with new players and a lack of pre-season. Today is part of the process of getting better.

"There is a lot we can keep getting better at. I'm not going to criticise every part of our game, I think they had three shots on target and got three goals. There were genuine mistakes. There was nothing tactically you can analyse again and again - there were just pure mistakes."

  5. Postpublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    Burnley v Southampton (20:00 BST)

This is Sean Dyche's 400th match in his managerial career (351 for Burnley and 49 for Watford).

What a servant he has been to the Clarets.

  6. 'This is a process'published at 19:54 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    West Brom 3-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Frank Lampard speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was three defensive mistakes for three goals. They scored with their three attempts on target, which made it very difficult.

"We controlled the game other than that. We had some chances and the question was how much character would we come out with second half. I always felt we could do it, but it is still two points lost.

"There was a lack of urgency in our game. We can move the ball quicker, the movement of the ball was slow in the first half. When we started to move it quicker and cut through them we became more dangerous.

"It needed a couple of changes, both players who came on did that. There were positives in our performance.

"But I would be stupid to say we can make three mistakes, give ourselves a mountain to climb and be happy with that.

"We have to accept the fact that this is a process in real time."

  8. 'We felt it was on'published at 19:45 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    West Brom 3-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "At 3-0 we wanted to try to get the points and had the feeling that we would get the goals.

"We felt it was on and put a lot of pressure on straight away in the second half.

"It was good, we worked hard, got the ball wide early, kept playing and got the goals.

"The new boys have gelled really well. All worked hard. They've improved us and have shown they are quality players with the right mentality to win games."

It's fine, the ref can just call them back tomorrow morning to finish the last three minutes then right?

So last year punishing attackers this year defenders? Hopefully, next year Fifa will apply rules equally, properly or fairly - I'll accept either of the three.

    Burnley v Southampton (20:00 BST)

    Burnley

It may have escaped your attention but Burnley have something of a squad crisis going on at the moment.

We reckon they've got 21 senior players, seven of whom are injured, with three of the remaining 14 goalkeepers. So if you're fit, you're in.

On the bench tonight are youngsters Josh Benson, Bobby Thomas, Anthony Driscoll-Glennon and Mace Goodridge.

The Clarets will either be busy in the transfer market or facing a tough season, you'd think...

  14. 'Mount's goal meant we could believe'published at 19:34 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    West Brom 3-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham speaking to Sky Sports: "In the first half we made it difficult for ourselves. I had a chance I should have put away and one I should be taking at this level. They scored from every shot. We knew we had to come out in the second half and not drop our heads - and that's what we did."

On what manager Frank Lampard said at half-time: "We all went in and our heads were down and he had to lift us up. He said we didn't look like a team ready to go out and win and we needed to pick each other up in the second half. Thankfully Mason [Mount] got the goal which meant we could believe. I knew we'd get chances but to come back from 3-0 is never easy. The boys deserve credit, they kept going."

On lessons to take away: "We need to cut out the mistakes as a team so we don't concede. We need to be strong together and keep encouraging one another."

Despite the splendid fightback, questions will still be asked of the Chelsea defence. West Brom will be sickened but it was a tremendous game of football. The neutrals would have loved it.
