They do consistently pull rabbits out of hats up at Turf Moor don't they. Though I wonder if giving him a big wedge of money to spend may not actually be that productive. Settled side, team spirit and all that.

Ashley Westwood almost flukes an equaliser with a wide free-kick that goes through everyone but by the post.

This isn't a reaction just to tonight but I really feel sorry for Sean Dyche. The lack of investment at Burnley makes it a thankless task. The board are just relying on another season of over-achievement from him. If he succeeds people will overlook it, if they go down the blame will unfairly stick to him.

Totally superb from that man Ings yet again! Has to be Ingsy all the way for England. However, the Saints simply have to see these games out, they all too often fail at the back and end up flattering the opponent.

Phil Bardsley is now left in a heap by the point of Moussa Djenepo's arm, it's an elbow into the ear and it's drawn blood. Again, nothing doing for the hosts...

  6. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 28 mins

    Burnley 0-1 Southampton

Chris Wood tumbles in the area and wants a penalty but instead referee Andre Marriner penalises him for handball. It looked pretty soft.

Sean Dyche the manager is fuming that a penalty isn't given. Dyche the centre-back would be embarrassed at the big striker going down.

Death, taxes and a Danny Ings goal. The only certainties in life.

Kevin Long almost gets in a tangle at the back for Burnley but just about gets it clear. The Clarets have edged possession but the only shot on target in the game so far is that opening goal for Danny Ings.

Burnley do have a load of injuries of course but even so they look short. Josh Brownhill tries a free-kick but can only find the wall.

Better from Burnley as the front two link up well, Matej Vydra's cross is met by Josh Brownhill but deflected clear.

I'm trying to be polite here but if I was an estate agent I might say that this Burnley squad is in need of modernisation throughout. Threadbare isn't it.

Another lovely cross from Kyle Walker-Peters tests Kevin Long and he does well to knee it clear, but the ball just comes back in and Che Adams hooks an ugly swinger over the bar. Deserved better from that move.

Jimmy Dunne clears well after more good footwork from Che Adams. Saints look sharper to everything at the moment.

Saints keeper Alex McCarthy comes to punch a corner away and gets it more up than out, Burnley then fire three great crosses in a row into the goalmouth and somehow the visitors escape. That was a proper exam.

    West Brom 3-3 Chelsea

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a good game. Six goals. Really proud of the way we played - how we attacked first half, how we forced them to play, how we ran, defended, were focused. Really good.

"Second half we knew they would come at us. We wanted to limit them to shots outside the box and stop them crossing.

"One of their shots went in. Great strike, but we deserved to get three points.

"It's not always about what you want to do, sometimes it's about the opposition. Chelsea are great players. We wanted to have more time on the ball and wanted to score more goals. Occasionally we had good moments and created good chances. With a bit of luck we could have won 4-2, but we knew we would have to defend deep in the second half and I thought we were excellent."

On West Brom's start: "Three games so far against Leicester, Chelsea and Everton. A tough schedule, but I have taken plenty of positives in all the matches.

"Now we have to find the belief and confidence that we belong here and have a genuine chance to stay up."

Southampton looked excellent at the start of their game last week and then I went to the tip and came back to see they'd shipped five goals so all is not lost for Burnley yet.

  18. 'We deserved three points today'published at 20:06 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    West Brom 3-3 Chelsea

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm happy with our performance. To score three against Chelsea is something. I'm very proud of the boys, we have to build on this to get the confidence and the spirit so we can see that we can play against a team who is individually better than our players - but that we can defend against them and that we can play some good football and create chances."

On a handball in the build-up to Chelsea's equaliser: "It doesn't look like [a handball] or that it might be a handball, but what do you want me to do now? To say what I want to say and they fine me again? You have a bunch of guys there who did enough to win the game, who defended great and to have two points taken from us in this manor with VAR is completely beyond me.

"I told the guys before the game this is a game of character, a game of mentality. We can't outclass them but we can out-run them. We can't give them anything but must grab whatever they give you and create and score goals. It is a very good performance from us but at the same time we are extremely disappointed with the outcome. Before the game it is a good point for us but the way it happened in the dying seconds of the game - it's unbelievable.

"I've seen a lot of positives, even against Leicester and against Everton in the first half. We have played against three teams that are really, really good who are contenders to be top-four, top-five. To have this performance is a big boost for us but we deserved three points today."

GOAL - Burnley 0-1 Southamptonpublished at 20:05 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    Danny Ings (5 mins)

    Had to be!

Kyle Walker-Peters, who I'm more and more convinced each week was actually Tottenham's best right-back, plays a brilliant pass through to find Che Adams inside the area. Nick Pope comes out to meet him but Adams is able to squeeze a pass inside and find former Burnley man Danny Ings, who clips into the back of the net under pressure.

You would have done well to predict that Burnley's centre-halves at the start of this season would be Kevin Long and Jimmy Dunne. For a team which never seems to make changes it's very much all change at the moment. Temporary or permanent? We shall see.
