The cynic in me expected, if I was being honest, James Rodriguez to not really fancy this. But while it's very early days he's looked class so far. Another beauty of a crossfield pass sets up a decent attack which ends with Abdoulaye Doucoure being pinged for a high foot.

That opportunity that Richarlison missed has put a rocket up Tottenham.

That Son Heung-min ball in was a striker's dream, Harry Kane just needed to get his toe on it.

Good block! Son whips in a curler from the left that looks to be heading on target until Seamus Coleman gets a head on it.

Everton then counter nicely, James turns his man on the edge of the box and shoots but it's charged down.

  4. CLOSE!published at 23 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

Jose Mourinho scowls in his seat as Yerry Mina takes on an ambitious shot from about 40 yards , just sat up nicely to be hit, and why not?

Jose has never lost on the opening day of the season in the Premier League. Eeeeessh and that's close, Son bending in a brilliant ball from the left that everyone misses, including Jordan Pickford and Harry Kane, and it bounces wide.

What possessed Dele Alli to go for the full Joelinton look? Never gonna end well.

Had to pass it, had to! The run and touch were sublime from Richarlison though.

Spurs now seeing more of the ball.

    Wow, what a miss.

Richarlison has done everything unbelievably well, he took it round Hugo Lloris, sent him for a bag of fish and chips and is about to lose his footing when shooting and skied it.

Carlo Ancelotti has his head in his hands.

  8. CLOSE!published at 16 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

If the Spurs fans were in they'd be on their side's back a bit here.

And Everton should be ahead! Ben Davies plays a horror of a crossfield pass, Richarlison does superbly to get there, go round Hugo Lloris but then shoots wide while off balance.

Open goal! And he had a man in the middle. Should have squared that.

Allan is waving his team-mates about, organising and coaching on the pitch. There's a reason why 'Tom Davies' was trending on twitter last week.

Allan is the type of player that Everton have lacked since Idrissa Gueye went to PSG.

This guy in possession is brilliant, one and two touch and keeps it moving.

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

The new Everton have dominated the opening 10 minutes without having a shot on goal but Carlo Ancelotti must be pleased.

He's finally got his side out and it shows. We've not seen much from Spurs yet.

Everton are very dynamic and have added legs into that midfield

It was a bit slow last season but Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Andre Gomes look good in that midfield.

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

We've played seven minutes but this is already the best I've seen Everton play in a long time. Every touch James has had has been spot on and they just look more fluid and dangerous.

    Early signs are good.

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

Allan leaves one on Dele Alli, who I hardly recognised, he's had a trip to the barbers. Allan is more than happy to sit in front of the defence.

Son almost gets in behind again but once more Seamus Coleman defends well. Nice open start.

  15. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

James Rodriguez's first real involvement is a nice pass to find Andre Gomes, he plays it on to Richarlison who rather loses his footing.

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

The first shot of the game comes from Son, a real daisy-cutter and it's straight at Jordan Pickford.

Son then runs Seamus Coleman who defends brilliantly. He lost his Republic of Ireland starting role this month to the man playing right-back for Spurs.

  17. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

Looks like Richarlison is being asked to do a job on the left with James on the right of a front three. Abdoulaye Doucoure has already made more tackles than the Everton midfield of last season.

Carlo loved a 4-4-2 last season so let's see how they play. James in the hole with a narrow three in midfield we reckon...

  20. 'Mourinho just wants a striker'published at 16:28 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

Jose's after a striker, especially as he's got nine games in 22 days coming up. Harry Kane's fitness is suspect, especially as England captain - he's got so many games to play.

They've obviously tried to get strikers in but Mourinho doesn't want anyone that's going to be fearful of fighting for a place against Harry Kane.

Why would he want that? You need competition for places, if you don't back yourself no one will want you.

I think Jose's annoyance at fixture congestion is aimed at the board in order to get more players in. He just wants a striker.
