Here he is. Moussa Sissoko is on for Dele Alli.

I don't know whether the guy complaining about the midfield of Winks and Hojbjerg will like this or not, but it looks like Moussa Sissoko is coming on.

Just the one shot on target in the first half form Everton but other than that they must be pleased with their display.

Spurs were not at it for a long period but still looked a threat - basically whenever Son got on the ball.

Imagine if you'd said a few years ago that there would be a battle in the Premiership featuring the last two World Cup golden boot winners, and that it took place between Everton and Tottenham.... You would have been laughed out the pub.

Carlo Ancelotti will be he happier manager at half time. Jordan Pickford has pulled out two good saves and will feel lucky they have gone in 0-0.

Both teams have had chances but there is room for improvement and it is a typical first game of the season.

James Rodriguez is a joy to watch. He started on the right but has been given the chance to roam. He has not played in a long time but when he get fitness and rhythm, he will cause havoc for opposition.

Allan is a very intelligent player and playing it simple, like Abdoulaye Doucoure. Move into spaces, one and two touch and keeping their energy.

Attacking players are usually not that involved in the game - Harry Kane for example has only had 16 touches in this game, which is not unusual.

But James had 46 touches in the first half, only behind Lucas Digne for Everton. The playmaker!

Paul: Is there a poorer midfield pairing at any other top club than winks and hojbjerg? I don't think there is. Neither would get in at city, Liverpool, Chelsea, utd, Leicester or arsenal.

    Stephen: James is class.

Armandowski: Oh we won't miss Messi much in the Epl. James is the man

No goals, plenty of intrigue - one James Rodriguez.

But it's Richarlison who had the best chance of that half.

I mean, you try and be nice...

You've apologised to Grahame, Tom Rostance and this is the first weekend of the season. You're useless at this, every season after season you're making mistakes time to get another job.

James Rodriguez to Richarlison, spin move, shot and save from Hugo Lloris.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 42 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

Almost a debut goal for Matt Doherty! The former Wolves man has been quiet in an attacking sense so far but pops up on the right and plays a lovely one-two with Harry Kane.

The ball is clipped over the top for him to run on to and his volley is well saved by a sprawling Jordan Pickford.

That's a great save with his feet.

All that has been good for Spurs has again come through Son and his cross in is another tester that Everton just about deal with. The game needs a goal but it's far from dull.

    Great chance for James Rodriguez

He jinked onto the left foot, no-one comes tight and he tried to bend it into the far corner.

From his frustrations, you can tell he should have hit the target at the very least.

  14. CLOSE!published at 37 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

Close! And it's that man James. This is exactly what Everton fans and staff were hoping for as Abdoulaye Doucoure reads a loose ball, nips in and wins it before finding James on his right.

The former Real Madrid man works it on to his left foot and bends a shot just wide from about 20 yards.

For an initial outlay of what Everton reckon is about £32m that's two cracking signings.

The West Brom game finished over an hour ago and as of 17.00 this game is 30 mins old. Any particular reason the stats are still showing the West Brom game?

    Grahame in Cramlington

    Simple human error/incompetence Grahame. Apologies.

That is a wonderful save from Jordan Pickford, it was going in but a great counter from Spurs.

I think Son Heung-min played the wrong pass, he should have picked out Harry Kane to his left instead of Dele Alli to the right.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 33 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

    We're excited Karen aren't we?

But it's Spurs who go close on the counter, Son again does well, feeds Harry Kane who lines up a ball for Dele Alli. He drives it in from 20 yards, clean as you'd like but straight down the middle and Jordan Pickford can punch it over the top.

James Rodriguez is coming in narrow and spraying nice balls about.

Coming into those central areas, he is causing havoc and I wish people could be here to see his range of passing today.

Imagine how good he will be in a few weeks' time.

James Rodriguez whips the ball from right to left to Richarlison, he shoots and it deflects over. Corner.

And now he's just smashed the ball into the ref's head.
