It looked so easy for Liverpool. Nice little interplay between Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino. Sadio Mane timed his run to perfection and heads it straight past the keeper. Liverpool have come out absolutely flying.

GOAL - Chelsea 0-1 Liverpoolpublished at 50 mins

    Sadio Mane

    It was coming.

Delightful goal involving all of Liverpool's front three.

Roberto Firmino plays a one-two with Mohamed Salah, dinks a cross into the box for Sadio Mane to crane his neck muscles and power a header into the far corner.

Nothing Kepa Arrizabalaga could do about that.

Surely bad refereeing is worse than VAR? Such an obvious red card refs can't just rely on having VAR to correct any mistakes.

    Martin, Stocksbridge

I don't understand defenders. Would you rather go a goal down or a man down for the rest of the game? Nonsensical.

We've seen two examples today of the ref giving the lighter punishment of a yellow card which is then overturned. Is this because they know it is easier to turn a yellow card to a red card with VAR, than the other way round.

Mark Burt: Any promise Christensen showed a few years ago has long since been extinguished. Not sure what he offers other than mistakes.

Simon Turner: That red card for Andreas Christensen likely means an extended stay at Chelsea for Fikayo Tomori.

Lifa Nati: Andres Christensen has never been a good defender for Chelsea, average at best. Crazy he's lasted this long. Now he's cost them the game.

I think Frank Lampard will be quietly speaking to Andreas Christensen saying "I'm not happy you have been sent off but you had to make that challenge" because Sadio Mane was going to score. It's still 0-0.

Andreas Christensen is the first player to be sent off in a Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Liverpool since Frank Lampard in February 2009.

He is also the first Chelsea player to be sent off at Stamford Bridge since David Luiz in 2017.

    Newcastle 0-2 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey speaking to BT Sport on his performance and recent praise: "It was a good win for the boys. I appreciate all the praise I get and I'm thankful for it all. I just need to keep working hard."

On manager Graham Potter's influence: "He is a fantastic coach for a young player like me to have. He has a clear project and he's always speaking to me about what I can do to help the team.

"It really helps when you have someone who believes in you."

  17. 'Everyone loves him here'published at 17:26 British Summer Time 20 September 2020

    Newcastle 0-3 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton striker Neal Maupay to BBC Sport: "That was my first brace in the Premier Leage so I'm really happy. First of all perofmrnace from team was really good.

"It's weird now with VAR. I was sure I wasn't offside but then I saw the linesman so a lot of things went through my mind. After a few minutes they said I was onside. It's a bit different to celebrating a goal after two minutes.

"It's not easy to wait before taking a pen, especially when you've missed your last one. I was tyring to stay focused on how to take it."

On Tariq Lamptey: "He's amazing. We're so lucky to have him. First half he was involved in everything. He's got pace, quality on the ball. He gives us a lot of different things. To have him with us is really good. I’m really happy for him. He works hard every day. He’s a good guy. He’s humble. Everyone loves him here."

  18. 'He's not that type of player'published at 17:24 British Summer Time 20 September 2020

    Newcastle 0-3 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Graham Potter to BBC Sport: “I can’t think of one [better start]. I’m delighted with the start. It reflects the attitude the players have had all week.

“To keep a clean sheet and score three goals, creating a few more opportunities and limiting our opponents to not much was positive. I’m delighted for the players. It’s good to get up and running in the Premier League.”

On Tariq Lamptey: “He’s so refreshing to work with. He threatens the back line with pace but also the desire to do it. He’s a fantastic boy who wants to improve and help the team. He’s a breath of fresh air.”

On Yves Bissouma’s red card: “Knowing Yves there won’t be any intent so it’s whether it’s an uncontrolled action. It’s the one disappointing bit of the game. We’re 3-0 up, there’s no need for Yves to hurt the player – he’s not that type of player anyway.

“We have to keep working. This is just one game. The games come thick and fast.“

  19. 'We do OK for a while then we throw a hand grenade in'published at 17:22 British Summer Time 20 September 2020

    Newcastle 0-3 Brighton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce to BBC Sport: “It was a really difficult afternoon for us. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. We’ve gifted them the first two goals. When you start like that it’ll be a difficult afternoon.

“We changed formation at half-time and it helped us slightly but we couldn’t recover from an awful 10 minutes.”

On Yves Bissouma’s red card: “I don’t know what the lad is doing. He was showboating before that and it’s a nasty cut [to Jamal Lewis]. But it’s not the cut we’re worried about. He’s got an aberration on his eye we think. By the letter of the law it’s pretty obviously dangerous, I don’t know why he’s doing it when he’s left a mess like that. I don’t think he intended it but it’s stupid.

"Since I’ve been here it’s like this. We do OK for a while then we throw a hand grenade in. We’ve got to be better than we were today.”
