  3. More from Steve Clarke...published at 22:31 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Israel

Scotland manager Steve Clarke: "We went to sleep on a throw-in in the second half and got punished for it.

"When you take into consideration it's three training sessions, I thought the good outweighed the bad. I thought the system tonight worked as well. As a coach, you want to have a couple of systems up your sleeve. You want to be flexible in game, you want to be flexible between games.

"Some games back four is better than back three. The Israelis play with a back three and I thought tonight was a good chance to look at playing with a back three.

"I thought we did okay. There's a lot of things that we have to work on, a lot of things that we have to get better, especially offensively. But the defensive work, the way the team shaped up, I thought was decent."

  8. 'Some good things and some bad things'published at 22:16 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Israel

Scotland manager Steve Clarke on Sky Sports: "Reasonably pleased. Disappointed to lose the goal in the second half when I thought we had reasonable control of the game defensively. Maybe not enough going forward.

"Towards the end of the game we pushed on again Stuart Armstrong had a chance near the end that could nearly have nicked it for us. Some good things and some bad things.

"I wanted to see Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson playing. I thought the back three were decent. I thought Lyndon Dykes was excellent. He gives us a good option.

"I think we've both had a little look at each other. It should be an interesting game next month."

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Israel

Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes on Sportsound: "I was excited to be out there. It was disappointing the result in the end.

"I definitely enjoyed it. It would've been much better with the fans there.

"I think we should be doing better. Looking at the squad, we've got world class. We need a bit of belief, a bit of confidence. It didn't happen for us today but there's always the next game."

  17. Time to choose Robertson or Tierney?published at 21:49 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    FT: Scotland 1-1 Israel

Three at the back didn't seem to work tonight, but what can you expect after such a long time without playing?

Steve Clarke will need to decide whether it merits persevering with to build cohesion, or consigning to the scrap heap.

    Quote Message

It was a particularly scrappy match. We never really got control of the game. Tierney and Robertson - I looked at this team and thought it was a good way of fitting them into the side. Two or three times there were just long passes from the Israel defence that were finding gaps in the Scotland back line. I wouldn't be surprised if the shape changed again
