  8. 'Age is just a number'published at 18:39 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Chelsea v Barnsley (19:45 BST)

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva says he is not worried by the speed of the Premier League - despite turning 36 the day before his debut for the club.

The Brazil centre-back joined Frank Lampard's Blues on a free transfer last month, after winning seven league titles with Paris St-Germain.

Silva will play in tonight's tie at home against Championship side Barnsley.

“Age is just a number on your document," he said on Tuesday. "I don't worry [about the speed of the Premier League] at all.

"Physically, I feel very young and I’m very well prepared for this. People who know me know how much I love my work; how I put in 200%."

  9. Will Barton's Fleetwood shock Everton?published at 18:36 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Fleetwood v Everton (19:45 BST)

In normal circumstances, there wouldn't be a seat to spare at Fleetwood's Highbury Stadium for the first competitive fixture between these two clubs.

Fleetwood were a non-league club up to 2012 an narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship in 2016-2017.

With lifelong Everton fan Joey Barton in charge of the League One club, will they spring a shock against a club who have not won major silverware since 1995?

  10. Brighton's 'kid with no limits'published at 18:33 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Preston v Brighton (19:00 BST)

Neal Maupay may have scored two of Brighton's three goals in Sunday's win at Newcastle but instead of taking the praise, he was keen to direct the plaudits towards a player who is fast proving to be one of the Premier League's most exciting talents.

"He was everywhere," said Maupay. "This kid doesn't have limits. He is 19 and playing at such a high level."

The French striker was talking about Brighton's exciting right-back Tariq Lamptey.

For the second game in a row, the England under-21 international caught the eye with his pace and trickery. After both Brighton's defeat by Chelsea and Sunday's win against Newcastle, Lamptey has been selected as player of the match by BBC Sport readers.

It is an impressive rise for the Chelsea academy graduate, who was snapped up by Brighton at the start of the year and now the Seagulls are reaping the rewards as the youngster goes from strength to strength.

  16. EFL 'deeply frustrated' as fan return haltedpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

EFL chairman Rick Parry says the league is "deeply frustrated" after plans to allow some fans to return to matches were halted.

Crowds had been due to return to sports events in limited numbers next month, but Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Tuesday that thiswill not go ahead.

The decision came after seven EFL clubs piloted small crowds last Saturday.

"With extended measures introduced it's imperative the financial issues facing our clubs are addressed," Parry said.

  19. Man City heading for Bermondsey?published at 18:14 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Millwall v Burnley (19:00 BST)

This might not be the most eye-catching tie of the third round but there is a big prize potentially for the winners.

Holders Manchester City, providing they see off Bournemouth on Thursday, await in the fourth round.

It is 19 years since Millwall last hosted City. Steve Claridge scored for Millwall that day while Shaun Wright-Phillips got the winner in a 3-2 victory.

Will Pep Guardiola and his big-money signings be rocking up in Bermondsey next week?

    Stoke v Gillingham (19:00 BST)

Stoke boss Michael O'Neill again leaves out goalkeeper Jack Butland, who has been linked with a move away.

In fact it's pretty much the side that knocked Wolves out in the last round with the exception of Bruno Martins Indi and Sam Vokes.

So that means that Tyrese Campbell and Morgan Fox both start.

Gillingham boss Steve Evans gives 18-year-old goalkeeper Joe Walsh a start alongside half a dozen of the side that advanced past Coventry in the last round.

Jordan Graham and Trae Coyle, who both scored at Wigan in League One at the weekend are both in from the start.
