Dominic Calvert-Lewin has developed really nicely at Everton. Ancelotti has kept faith in him and sees something in him. He wants continuity and wants the strikers to stay in a rythym. I see he has changed the midfield but kept the forwards. Maybe a bit of risk but tells us Everton are taking this extremely seriously.

Early blow for Burnley. Jay Rodriguez cannot carry on. An early substitution and Chris Wood is on.

Stoke looking to work the first opening of the game but frontman Tyrese Campbell cannot take the ball in his path inside the area and the chance is lost.

Joe Rafferty plays a short corner to Paul Gallagher. He's allowed to shoot but it's punched away by goalkeeper Jason Steele.

Preston have had a few set-pieces though.

Jay Rodriguez has been receiving treatment but the Burnley forward is able to get back on his feet which is something of a relief considering he is due to face his former club Southampton on Saturday.

Steve Bruce has said about his desire to win a trophy. Consistency is a thing though. Are Newcastle consistent enough because you just don't know what team will turn up. It is only five/ six games they need to win.

Preston's Tom Bayliss is the first player to go in the book for pulling back Alexis MacAllister.

He has the best name on the team sheet and he very nearly gives Millwall the lead.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has a pop but his attempt is deflected off target.

Morecambe make five changes to the side that lost 5-0 at home to Cambridge in League Two on Saturday with the likes of John O'Sullivan, Jordan Slew and Cole Stockton all starting.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce makes nine changes from the side that has started their first two Premier League matches.

Only captain Jamaal Lascelles and Isaac Hayden remain in a much-changed side.

The Cottagers have won eight of their last nine League Cup meetings against sides from a lower division, losing the other against Bristol Rovers in August 2017.

Everton name a strong team with five of the starting XI who beat West Brom 5-2. Hat-trick scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one of the players to keep his place.

Fleetwood make just one change from their late 2-1 defeat by Peterborough as teenage defender Morgan Boyes, on loan from Liverpool, makes his debut.
