  1. goal

GOAL - Man City 1-0 Marseillepublished at 21:09 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Ferran Torres (48 mins)

Riyad Mahrez produces a lovely weaving run into the area from the right. He then plays the ball via a tiny touch from Valere Germain into the path ofFerran Torres, who slots in.

That's the sixth goal of the season for the winger/striker.

  2. Postpublished at 46 mins

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

Raheem Sterling almost gets his first touch, but instead comes out of the area from an offside position.

    Wise.

  3. Give Zack Steffen something to dopublished at 21:07 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

I wonder what Man City keeper Zack Steffen feels like.

This is his Champions League debut and probably fancies a chance at impressing manager Pep Guardiola.

But the USA international, whose hero was former Manchester United and Everton keeper Tim Howard, has not had much to do.

He did block a Pape Gueye effort but it was from a very acute angle and I am not even sure it was on target.

  4. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

The Marseille players finally decide to show up.

We are back under way at a drizzly Etihad. Definitely drizzly, I think.

I might need to stick my hand out of the window.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

So Raheem Sterling is on for Ilkay Gundogan. Interesting... *strokes chin*.

We've only got a few players on the pitch - not sure where the rest are.

  6. Has this guy done enough to be appearing in the Manchester derby?published at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

Phil Foden produced a couple of shots with one on target at the end of the half - he also provided a great cross early in the half.

However, look who is ahead of the England youngster...

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

    Possession Man City/MarseilleImage source, Opta

Yup. Marseille, for the most part, barely lowered the blinds to see the City half because they were stuck in their own, as you can see in the image on the right.

That seemed to change in the last five minutes of the first half.

  8. 'If City want to win they need to up the tempo'published at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Man City looked like they were going to get three or four goal the way they started off - they were all over Marseille, they couldn't get near them. Then as the game's gone on Eric Garcia goes off and John Stones came on and in that period Marseille got a bit more confidence. Then they have had two or three chances and they've ended up fairly equal.

You wouldn't really say there's a better team in it at the moment. If Man City want to win this game they've got to up the tempo and move the ball a bit quicker.

  9. Salah breaks recordpublished at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Liverpool 1-1 Midtjylland

Earlier, Liverpool drew 1-1 at Midtjylland.

Mohamed Salah scored for the Reds and became the club's record Champions League goalscorer.

The Egyptian's strike was his 22nd in the competition, surpassing club great Steven Gerrard.

  10. Postpublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Real Madrid 2-0 Borussia Monchengladbach

The half-time whistle goes at the Di Stefano. Madrid are 45 minutes away from the last 16.

As things stand, Gladbach would join them. But if either Inter Milan or Shakhtar Donetsk win their game at the San Siro, they would qualify. That's 0-0 at the moment.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

Phil Foden has the final kick of the half - an angled strike which is comfortably saved low by 35-year-old Steve Mandanda.

    That is that.

  12. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

It's been a funny ol' half. City were in full control before Marseille began to find space on the right through Florian Thauvin and Dimitri Payet.

A pretty good watch so far.

  13. 'Marseille have come into the game now'published at 20:45 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

For the first 20 minutes you thought it was a case of how many Man City were going to score - but the last ten minutes, maybe since the injury to Eric Garcia, which seems to have knocked the rhythm of Man City a bit. Marseille have come into the game now and they've had two or three good chances.

  14. Postpublished at 20:45 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Real Madrid 2-0 Borussia Monchengladbach

Real Madrid think they have booked their place in the last 16 as Luka Modric slams home but Raphael Varane was offside in the build-up so it's disallowed.

  15. What a block!published at 42 mins

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

John Stones sticks out his leg at the right time to prevent Valere Germain getting on the end of a cracking cross from Florian Thauvin.

Moments later, Morgan Sanson pulls his shot wide from 18 yards - but it wasn't far wide.

Moments later, Pape Gueye forces a save from Zack Steffen with his close-range angled strike.

Perhaps ignore what I wrote in the 37th minute.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 39 mins

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

Pape Gueye stops Ilkay Gundogan in his tracks but picks up a yellow card for doing so.

  17. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

If you fancy a Marseille win because City haven't really got much to play for then don't because the French side have only won one of their previous 12 away games against English sides in European competition.

  18. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

Riyad Mahrez runs off a slight knock to latch on to Ilkay Gundogan's lay-off and strike a shot that whistles past Steve Mandanda's right-hand upright.

    A typical swift City move.

  19. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Man City 0-0 Marseille

Dimitri Payet fancies it a bit tonight as he goes for a 50 yarder to try to catch Zack Steffen out.

    He didn't obviously.

  20. goal

GOAL - Real Madrid 2-0 Borussia Monchengladbachpublished at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2020

    Karim Benzema (32 mins)

Real Madrid are in complete control now with a second Karim Benzema header from a right-wing cross. This time Rodrygo picks out Benzema, who makes no mistake.
