Olivier Giroud is up there on his own against three centre-halves and it's asking so much of him to even create something and get a glimpse of the ball. I think it's better when Mason Mount gets involved. He can create the angles and opportunities in and around the defensive three.

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Chelsea

Brilliant from Mason Mount. He hurdles two challenges in midfield and plays an excellent ball down the left wing to Timo Werner. Sadly for Chelsea, Werner's cross is cut out.

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea have been bright in this half with Mason Mount having a shot blocked and Callum Hudson-Odoi involved. Every time I tried to tell you about something there was a goal in the other game.

    Joaquin Correa (49 mins)

Game on? Surely not but Joaquin Correa latches onto the ball, beats about three Bayern defenders and slots home.

Francesco Acerbi own goal (47 mins)

    Oh Lazio!

Leroy Sane runs onto a long ball from his own half and reaches the penalty area. He turns a defender one way and the other too easily and then crosses for Kingsley Coman. Francesco Acerbi tries to stop the ball reaching the Bayern player but turns it into his own net instead.

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea get a bit lucky. A free-kick comes in and Cesar Azpilicueta heads the ball back to his keeper. Well he thinks Edouard Mendy is there but he isn't and Luis Suarez can't take advantage but it's a corner.

Ted Clarke: Never mind a bus, it feels like Atletico have parked a couple of supertankers across their half of the pitch in the first half. Chelsea doing most of the passing and shots. If the defence doesn’t crumble, they might just take it to Atletico in the second half!

Roger: Chelsea's team selection seems all wrong. Pick one of the best international centre forwards and then never cross a ball to him.

    The second halves begin.

  11. Postpublished at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2021

Bayern have scored 10 goals in their last 135 minutes at the Stadio Olimpico, after winning 7-1 against Roma on 21 October 2014.

The last time a team had a half-time lead of at least three goals in a Champions League knockout match was Bayern's 8-2 win over Barcelona last season (4-1 at half-time).

  13. Postpublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2021

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Chelsea

  14. 'Both managers will be pleased'published at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2021

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I do feel Chelsea have had a good bit of control in the game. We saw at the end when Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi injected a bit of tempo and speed into their passing and running, they nearly opened up that back six of Atletico Madrid.

I think both managers will be pleased with how the first half has gone without over-extending themselves.

John Livinus: Mount inexperience, Giroud struggling, Odoi and Alonso decent, Chelsea need to be more creative and remain discipline second half.

Free scoring La Liga leaders, 'home leg' against 5th in the Premier League = Ten men behind the ball. If that is a footballing master class, maybe Pep was right. Big Sam is a genius.

  16. 'Atletico playing so deep'published at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2021

    HT: Atletico Madrid 0-0 Chelsea

    Rob Green
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Thomas Tuchel will be pleased, Chelsea have had control. I think they have played themselves into a bit of bother a couple of times, over-playing at the back - but that's the risk they are willing to take.

However, it's been solely dictated by the way Atletico Madrid have set up. They are so deep, so negative. But Chelsea would've taken this scoreline at the start of the half.

  17. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2021

We reach the break in Rome too. Bayern Munich are in complete control. Joshua Kimmich almost made it 4-0 just before the whistle.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2021

  20. Postpublished at 20:45 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2021
