Thomas Tuchel won't want to alienate anyone at Chelsea but at the same time, he will want to show who is boss. It's still early in his tenure so he still has everyone's respect.

Tuchel will want to put his foot down and to know that there are standards he is expecting. Callum Hudson-Odoi has been a first teamer for a bit longer than you expect that to happen to but I was just interested in how Tuchel phrased it. He used the words 'in that role'. There's no doubting Hudson-Odoi's quality as here he is, right back in.

The overall head-to-head between Atletico and Chelsea in European competition is perfectly balanced, with two wins each, three draws and 11 goals each.

Atletico prevailed in their only previous Champions League knockout tie with Chelsea in the 2013-14 semi-finals (3-1 on aggregate).

Lazio are in the knockout rounds of the Champions League for the first time in 21 years (1999-00). That is the longest ever gap between two appearances at this stage.

They are sixth in Serie A.

Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi, who took over in 2016, has called this game the "culmination of a journey that began five years ago".

"This match is the icing on the cake that we have earned on our journey," he said.

"On paper Bayern are an unplayable team but we are mature and many times, when we were given up for underdogs, we did great things."

Atletico Madrid v Chelsea (20:00 GMT)

Renowned for building a team with grit and resilience, Diego Simeone has revitalised Atletico with a new era of open, attacking football built around tactical tweaks and player role transformations, rather than a classic modern-day transfer window splurge.

In fact, many of Simeone's chief lieutenants sought pastures new with the departures of Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernandez, Rodri, Filipe Luis, Diego Godin and Juanfran in the summer of 2019, followed by the sales of Thomas Partey and Alvaro Morata last summer.

So how has Simeone reinvented Atletico and, with it, the perception of his own managerial style?

    Read how here.

The news in Rome is that 17-year-old England youth international Jamal Musiala starts for Bayern Munich, with the European champions without Thomas Muller who is isolating with Covid-19.

The teenager has featured regularly for Hansi Flick's side this season, playing 24 times in all competitions and scoring three goals.

He will be looking to add to that tally against a Lazio side boasting a couple of former Liverpool stars in veteran midfielder Lucas Leiva and 38-year-old goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

    Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone makes three changes to the Atletico Madrid side that suffered a shock 2-0 home La Liga loss to Levante on Saturday as former Manchester City defender Stefan Savic, Saul Niguez and Thomas Lemar come in for Jose Gimenez, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Renan Lodi.

Ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez starts up front, while Lucas Torreira, on loan from Arsenal, is on the bench as is former Fulham and Celtic forward Moussa Dembele.

Atletico Madrid: Oblak, Llorente, Savic, Felipe, Hermoso, Correa, Koke, Niguez, Lemar, Suarez, Felix.

Substitutes: Grbic, San Roman, Lodi, Sanchez, Kondogbia, Torreira, Vitolo, Garcia, Dembele, Camello.

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel hauled Callum Hudson-Odoi off after he had only played 31 minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute in the 1-1 draw versus Southampton on Saturday, but the England international is in the starting line-up tonight.

That is one of four changes with starts also for Andreas Christensen, Jorginho and Olivier Giroud, with Kurt Zouma, N'Golo Kante, Reece James and Tammy Abraham dropping to the bench.

Chelsea: Mendy, Rudiger, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Alonso, Jorginho, Kovacic, Hudson-Odoi, Werner, Mount, Giroud.

Substitutes: Arrizabalaga, Zouma, Chilwell, Emerson, James, Ziyech, Gilmour, Kante, Havertz, Caballero, Abraham, Pulisic.

Atletico Madrid are technically the home team today but the tie is in Bucharest, Romania - because of restrictions on people travelling from the UK to Spain.

Bucharest is actually closer to London (a 3hr 20min flight) than Madrid (4hr).

Atletico boss Diego Simone said: "We don't have to talk about things we cannot manage. This is what we are living today.

"There are a lot of difficulties for many people, many hard workers and we just love football so this is what we have to do. This is where we have to play and we just have to concentrate on the game that we have here."

Atletico Madrid are still favourites to win this tie - but not as much as they were a few weeks ago.

Since the draw was made, Chelsea have sacked Frank Lampard and appointed Thomas Tuchel. They are unbeaten in seven games since then.

Atletico have lost home advantage for this leg, with the game being played in Romania.

And Atleti have dropped points in their last two La Liga games with their lead at the top dropping from 10 points at the end of January to three points.
