Karim Benzema's strike has given Real Madrid a half-time lead over Atalanta and doubled their aggregate advantage.

Atalanta keeper Marco Sportiello will not want to see the goal again, his poor clearance presenting the ball to Luka Modric who found Benzema to do the rest.

The visitors will be a bit peeved about how the half finished - the referee blew up right on 45 minutes just as Atalanta striker Muriel looked to be clear on goal.

Even though they have been outplayed and are getting beat 4-0 on aggregate, I've actually been impressed with Gladbach. They will not give up and they keep on pressing high.

Colin Bundred: Another moment of insanity, goalkeeper playing out from the back. If you were playing for a Sunday league side the fans would crucify you. A gift for Real.

This is quantum football from City. We’re like Bayern with a personality.

Tomenum: Everyone thinks City has a chance, they're only playing Gladbach. The real test is, Bayern Munich.

City got the easiest draw by far and this tie seemed a mere formality even before a ball was kicked.

Yann Sommer might be good enough to be City's sub keeper maybe.

Third shot on target for Gladbach. Ederson had it covered but it shows a real positivity. They are being beat convincingly and I don't think there is one Gladbach player that would get into the City 22! But they are having a go.

It is not too far away for Kevin de Bruyne to shoot. He hits a powerful shot which is straight down the middle and Yann Sommer tips over.

City have a free-kick maybe 35 yards out. Too far away to shoot?

    Tie over?

An awful error from Atalanta keeper Marco Sportiello has gifted Madrid a two-goal aggregate lead.

He presents a clearance straight to Luka Modric who advances a few yards and squares for Karim Benzema to sweep past the stranded stopper.
