Chelsea 2-0 Atletico Madrid (agg. 3-0)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel on BT Sport: "Very good performance, unbelievable effort, even from the guys in the stands... could feel we totally wanted it.

"They tried to pressure us high in the first half but opened up some spaces in the back of the midfield and we could exploit it. Second half there were minutes where we suffered but we were ready to do what was necessary to win.

"We missed Andrea Christensen today, Thiago for many weeks - big personalities. I tell Kurt Zouma this morning he plays and he steps up. It's about team work, courage and reliability of feeling safe around each other.

"Is it a penalty? (Azpilicueta foul) Azpi got a bit frightened because his ball was short, I did not see it but was a bit frightened.

"We know if we cannot find solutions with offensive play we can rely on our physical game. We were absolutely not afraid to put it on a physical level if we don't get offensive solutions. We enjoyed the battle. The guys were totally on and sharp, we were super hungry to go through.

"Quarter-final means there's only four games - it's a big step and feels excellent."

So, that it is 13 games unbeaten for Chelsea now under Thomas Tuchel.

This is now the longest unbeaten start to a tenure by any manager in the club's history, overtaking Luiz Felipe Scolari's 12 games in 2008.

The Blues are also to concede a goal in six home games under Tuchel in all competitions; indeed. In fact, they have kept 11 clean sheets in 13 games under the German, more than any other Premier League club since his first game in charge in January.

Chelsea 2-0 Atletico Madrid (agg 3-0)

    Don Hutchison
Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Really professional performance from Chelsea but I was disappointed with Atletico I thought they looked really poor – slow and lethargic.

But if you’re a Chelsea fan you’re into the last eight – you’re looking forward to the draw your side is keeping clean sheets and you can see now that they’re hard to beat.

To go back to the first half, Atletico should have had a penalty. Azpilicueta pulled Carrasco back and one of either the on-field ref or VAR should have spotted it. Would also likely have been a red card for the Chelsea man. Would have been a very different game than the one we witnessed, with the Blues utterly dominant.

Chelsea 2-0 Atletico Madrid (agg 3-0)

    Chelsea

Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech, speaking to BT Sport: "Some difficult moments in the game but for most of the time we had it under control. It was an important goal and I had to wait a long time for it.

"It is always good when you go 1-0 up, especially when you make it by yourself. Timo's delivery was good as well.

"It was a bit like seeing how the game would go for 10 minutes and after that we had control. We did well.

"They didn't create a lot. We can be happy about the performance. Hopefully it will be a good opponent for the last eight."

Fantastic - over the two legs you have to kook at the team selections which were spot on, the performances which were brilliant, individual performances, clean sheets as well against an Atletico Madrid side it's a dream.

They thoroughly deserved it brilliant performance, especially today, Edouard Mendy has had pretty much nothing to do. They're really pushing forward, it's an exciting period for Chelsea.

Brilliant counter-attacking football - Christian Pulisic plays Emerson in on the left and he's through on goal, there were no defenders back everyone for Atletico was pushed forward. On his left foot, first time absolutely buries it into the corner. Brilliant counter attacking goal for Chelsea, total control, total dominance and they've blown Atletico Madrid away.

    Emerson

    Not a bad first touch.

Emerson's very first act is to run 40 yards to collect a pass from Christian Pulisic after N'Golo Kante's tackle had won the ball to set Chelsea away. The full-back's low shot is clean and into the bottom corner.

Cake, say hello to some icing.
