I don't think City are good at sitting back and allowing teams onto them. Don't change Plan A, which is 'attack, attack, attack'.

Paul Leonard: Do what we’ve been doing in our unbeaten & we’ll be fine but DON’T put doubt in your heads have a positive mental attitude

Ar vind: Hate to say this but this Liverpool team are simply not strong enough to emulate the miracles of the past. It should be a routine win for Real.

Liverpool 0-0 Real Madrid (agg 1-3)

Liverpool win their second corner of the game. Only five and a half minutes gone. Trent Alexander-Arnold takes it quickly and catches out their Spanish opponents (where have we heard that before...) but James Milner hits the ball straight at a Real player.

Borussia Dortmund 0-0 Manchester City (agg 1-2)

City know how to dominate possession, but it doesn't always lead to success. As Leeds proved on Saturday...

The visitors are finding their rhythm nicely, knocking the ball around but can't find a way through. Dortmund recover possession and keeper Marwin Hitz coolly passes his way out of bother.

Mo Salah should score there - it should be 1-0 to Liverpool. Fantastic opportunity for Salah, great play down the side from Sadio Mane and it was quite a simple strike for Salah, it's disappointing from him.

A very encouraging start. Sadio Mane absolutely bamboozles makeshift right-back Federico Valverde and almost finds one of his team-mates with a low pass across the six-yard box.

Cracking tempo to the early exchanges. Dortmund straight on the front foot, Jude Bellingham trying to set Marco Reus clear. The home skipper is stopped in his tracks by a wafting flag.

Liverpool v Real Madrid (20:00 BST)

Liverpool have condemned the "unacceptable and shameful behaviour" of "a few individuals" after Real Madrid's team bus had a window smashed as it arrived at Anfield on Wednesday.

Hundreds of Reds fans packed on to Anfield Road before the Champions League quarter-final second leg.

The Real bus was booed as it passed, with several objects thrown.

One pane of a double-glazed window was smashed, with Liverpool staff seen cleaning up broken glass on the ground.

Think we'd all agree this tie is 'finely-poised', 'delicately-balanced', etc.

The raw fact is City have the scoreboard advantage. But the stats tell us something else...

In Champions League history, the side winning 2-1 in the home first leg of a knockout stage tie has been eliminated (15) more often than they’ve progressed (12).

  16. Dortmund Ed-ing for a rare comeback win?published at 19:54 British Summer Time 14 April 2021

Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City (20:00 BST)

Seven times Borussia Dortmund have lost the first leg of a Champions League knockout stage match.

Six of those have seen them eliminated.

The exception was against Benfica in 2016-17 when they trailed 1-0 but won 4-0 in Dortmund to reach the quarter-finals.

Benfica's keeper that day was... Ederson.

  17. 'We won't try to manage effort levels'published at 19:53 British Summer Time 14 April 2021

Liverpool v Real Madrid (20:00 BST)

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane: "We're not going to try and manage our effort levels, we've come here to win and that's what we'll try to do.

"We've spoken about this with the team, we made a huge effort in the first leg and against Barcelona but we're used to it.

"A lot of things have happened to us this season, we are missing a lot of players right now and, while I'd love to have them all available, we're going to make sure we put in our best performances with the players we have.

"This team always comes together in the toughest of times, which shows the character we have."

    ModricImage source, .

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric: "I expect it to be a very demanding game, in which we'll have to deliver a performance befitting of the competition and we'll have to put in a top display.

"We'll have to try to do what we did in the first leg and attack and defend as a unit, go out to get the win and not defend our lead. We've got to go for the win.

"We're in good shape. There are so many games and they really take their toll, particularly at this important stage of the season, in which we've got a lot of important players out. But we're in good shape, we've got to keep going.

"We've worked hard for nine months to be in this position and to be in the hunt in the league and the Champions League and we can't go pointing to fatigue."

Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City (20:00 BST)

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to BT Sport: "To get to the semi-finals you have to go for it, you can't wait, the result in the first leg doesn't matter.

"We are not used to just defending results. At these stages there is not the same and not the same pattern. The best way is to concentrate on what you have to do and not the consequence of the result."

On starting Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back and leaving out Joao Cancelo: "It was a decision, nothing special. Joao could play, like the others and I took that decision.

"We have to adjust a little bit and the important concept is to score goals. If we don't score goals it is difficult to go through."

On the fireworks set off outside City's hotel last night: "I was sleeping like a baby so I didn't analyse it. Two times some people were there but it is not a problem."

  20. Will Pep be a 'failure' without Champions League?published at 19:50 British Summer Time 14 April 2021

Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City (20:00 BST)

Pep Guardiola's remit was clear when he arrived at Manchester City: win the Champions League.

So far, he has not been able to deliver. In each of Guardiola's four seasons at the club, City have not been past the quarter-finals.

And the 50-year-old Catalan knows that, above all else, he has to land the top prize in European football or face questions about his success at the Etihad.

"I know if we don't win I'll be a failure and if we do it's 'how good is Pep'," said Guardiola.
