I don't expect Real Madrid to play a three at the back next week because they do need that goal so I expect them to play a four which will leave them open at times. I don't think Thomas Tuchel will change too much - he'll probably play the same starting XI.

N'Golo Kante is one of the best midfielders in world football at what he does. He breaks up play and keeps it simple, but he drives and that is what Real Madrid's ageing midfield couldn't handle. They couldn't catch him, in particular in the first half.

It surprised me when he wasn't playing as much. No, if he is fit he should be playing week in week out.

The first half was frantic and end to end. At times you just have to realise it is the first leg and you've still got the second leg to win the game. It was more sensible from Chelsea - they didn't want to leave gaps. Overall they will be happy with their performance - it is all on Real Madrid in the second leg now.

It was a really entertaining first half but the second wasn't as good but you can understand that.

Chelsea are favourites now, getting the away goal, but Madrid are still in this and can cause problems.

Tuchel strides out in his cap and has some stirring words with a few of his players. He looks pleased with that as well he might.

But could they have had more?

A million per cent Thomas Tuchel will have taken this before the game. He's got the away goal and the draw - they are in the box seat. They can sit back at home and play on the counter attack and they've got the players that can do that.

The first half was excellent Willem. At least top-flight Belgian standard. Antonio Rudiger needs treatment after a flying run is ended by a bodycharge.

Willem: So this could have been a Super League game? I missed the first half of this game, but I have seen more exciting football in the Belgian 3rd division. Glad it didn't happen.

Chelsea restricted West Ham to next to nothing at the weekend and so far they've allowed Real Madrid just the one shot on goal.

Trevor: Real will have to score at least one in London, and Tuchel will plan accordingly. Not a bad position to be in?
