Villareal to score 2 surprisingly quick goals early on, Utd to chase game and dominate, pull one back late on but never find the equaliser.

I really don't understand why Harry Maguire is on the bench - you're either fit or you're not. That is the mindset of a player. It is an odd one for me.

It is OK to have him around, but I don't understand the bench situation. Verbally, he can very important in the dressing room, but the physical side, if you're not fit to start, then there isn't any way you can come on and go really hell for leather.

I'm gutted really because I think he is a big part of Man Utd's defence and getting over the line. Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, I don't think will put fear into any strikers.

Mason Greenwood's selection also means there are four players in the Manchester United starting line-up that came through the club's academy, counting Paul Pogba.

In the current era, it is quite a notable achievement at a club of United's size.

United should win by 2 goals or more. Just can't see Villareal holding out against Bruno or Cavani

The big news around Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team selection is Mason Greenwood getting a starting spot ahead of Fred.

It's a move that will see Paul Pogba drop back into an orthodox midfield position and put pressure on him to be disciplined and Scott McTominay to cover him when needed.

Greenwood has pace and finishing ability and United will think they have got their best offensive players on the pitch.

Let's be honest, from the moment they were knocked out of the champions league they were heavy favourites for this. Yes it's the first all important trophy if they win, and I genuinely believe they will and it will be the 1st of many (inc the league) to come, but tonight is all about having the concentration and attitude to turn up and play for the team. We have the quality, there is no question of that, but this is where we find out if the players have the right mentality too (which I believe they do).

I would definitely start David de Gea. When we talk about this team in terms of European football, it's been very up and down.

We can't forget the fact that Manchester United started this season in the Champions League and flew out of the blocks, then everything went pear-shaped, so there's a lot of insecurity about playing away from home in Europe, and also inexperience.

David de Gea has spent 10 years at the club and has arguably been the best player in those 10 years. He had a little dip in form about a year ago but I think he's shown he's the best goalkeeper at Manchester United.

That game in Roma three weeks ago could have been one of the most embarrassing moments for the club ever. Had he not played the way he did, they could have been knocked out. I remember four incredible saves he made.

I think we got a good indication of who's going to play tonight when we saw the line-up against Wolves on Sunday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played all the reserves and Dean Henderson was playing.

Manchester United's players went for a walk on the pitch just now.

Paul Pogba was wearing a massive pair of red headphones.

They looked quite good - but he doesn't mind attention does he?

Harry Maguire was there as well. We are not far from finding out if he is at the centre of a massive cover-up over his ankle injury - or if he will just miss out as most people think.

When we finally won the league again in 1993, Sir Matt Busby was in the stand. That was incredibly important to us. There was a lot of sentiment to make sure we won this championship before he passed on.

He was a big feature at Manchester United, not there every day physically, but what he created for the club really meant a lot. The manager, Alex Ferguson, was strong about that, that you have to respect that and understand that this is our history, and we did.

It meant a lot to the players that we could actually win it in front of Matt and I'm sure the players will feel the same today about Alex Ferguson.

Sir Alex Ferguson will be Manchester United’s representative at the Europa League trophy presentation in Gdansk this evening.

Each club is allowed one person to stand alongside Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin and the rest of the presentation party when he hands the medals out at the end of the game.

On United’s most recent Europa League final appearance in Stockholm four years ago, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward did the job.

Sir Bobby Charlton fulfilled the role at the 2008 Champions League final in Moscow and tonight, United have decided Ferguson will be the man to stand alongside Ceferin.

  18. Does Maguire have a chance?published at 18:23 British Summer Time 26 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

Doubts remain about captain Harry Maguire's availability after he suffered ankle ligament damage two weeks ago.

Maguire was on crutches until last week but has travelled to Gdansk and hopes to feature. However, he did not take part in Tuesday's training session.

England manager Gareth Southgate included him in a provisional 33-man Euro 2020 squad - but admits he is in the dark about his fitness.

"We have got a bit of a shortage of information on a couple of the injuries," Southgate told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Understandably, Manchester United have a big game so I get why we haven't been able to access that as easily. I don't know whether he is fit for tomorrow or in three months' time. That is where we are with it."

We should have the teams around 19:00 BST.
