This might actually be Villarreal's first attack and they win a corner as Alfonso Pedraza's cross is blocked by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Manchester United are having to be patient as Villarreal are not moving out of their defensive shape.

Marcus Rashford has already lost possession a couple of times, so that needs to change.

It is important Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side don't push their passes too much trying to force openings.

Robin: That shot was miles off target. McTominay should have done better there.

Babyboomer: Good grief. McTominay had all the time in the world, unchallenged 20 yards out and screwed the ball well wide of goal. There must be 50 midfield players in the EPL that would have got a shot on target there.

Marcus Rashford is OK but a stretcher is on for Tottenham Hotspur loanee Juan Foyth.

His ankle seems OK after the slip but he's got a facial injury too.

He doesn't need the stretcher in the end and walks off.

One player from each team is down injured. I'm not sure what happened to Marcus Rashford and then Villarreal's Juan Foyth stands on the ball and slips.

Marcus Rashford has got that dynamism and that end product, but Villarreal had good numbers back.

First chance now as Marcus Rashford runs down the left and pulls it back to Scott McTominay, who drags his 20-yard drive wide of goal.

It's been mostly United so far.

Villarreal are doing well - they are forcing Manchester United to play slowly. United aren't very effective when they play slowly, they want to play quick and counter-attack and they are just being forced to go from left to right. They are having to think about how to play this game.

Edinson Cavani tries to flick the first shot of the game towards goal from a left-wing cross but he's well marshalled by a defender.

A good rowdy atmosphere so far. Paul Pogba plays a crossfield ball to Aaron Wan-Bissaka but this United attack doesn't really go anywhere.

A few tackles snapping round in midfield. Both sides are up for this. The biggest day in Villarreal's history probably.

United mount an attack in the first minute but Mason Greenwood commits a foul outside the box.

Looking at the team sheet Villarreal will be thinking about how to deal with the pace of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood and that is before you think about Edison Cavani, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

Manchester United should win this game.
