Jurgen Klopp is giving his back four some choice words. They have been nowhere near good enough tonight.

I'm a bit speechless to be honest. Villa could have had even more as well!

Oh my gosh! What more could you want? What a night for Ollie Watkins.

VAR checked that for offside, as it had more than a tinge of offside about it, but the goal stands!

    Ollie Watkins HAT-TRICK (39 mins)

    Good grief.

From that free-kick conceded by Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool hold a high line and they are caught out, Trezeguet is able to square it and there's Ollie Watkins for a header into the back of the net.

    It's a hat-trick!

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 38 mins

    Aston Villa 3-1 Liverpool

There's a malady in midfield for Liverpool. They just have no answer to Ross Barkley, he's running free again and Virgil van Dijk has to bring him down. Booked.

  7. 'More goals to come'published at 19:54 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Aston Villa 3-1 Liverpool

This is a hell of a game - the goal scoring isn't over.

It gets a wicked deflection but if you don't shoot you don't score and there's more goals to come. This will be better than Old Trafford, mark my words.

    Aston Villa 3-1 Liverpool

We've had 14 shots on goal, and nine on target, already.

    John McGinn (35 mins)

WHAT SORT OF THING IS HAPPENING HERE?

What a game! What a night!

Ross Barkley spins over a corner which Joe Gomez heads out, John McGinn volleys it back from a mile out and it hits Virgil van Dijk and flies in.

    Aston Villa 2-1 Liverpool

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm telling you, we're going to get a game like at Old Trafford!

It's good play again, Matty Cash tries to come out and win the ball so he's out of position. Mohamed Salah is not going to miss from there, if you give him half a chance he puts it in the net.

He's got to score one of these...

Ross Barkley is beyond the Liverpool defence again and this time hits the target, Adrian just about saving with his feet.

    Mo Salah (33 mins)

THAT is how you finish, Ross.

Liverpool could be 4-0 down but they're only one behind now. Diogo Jota does well running in from the left, Gini Wijnaldum spins on it and while his effort is blocked, the ball is coughed up for Mo Salah and he absolutely hammers it into the top corner. Deadly.

  13. CLOSE!published at 31 mins

    Aston Villa 2-0 Liverpool

Liverpool haven't come from two goals down to win a Premier League game since January 2016 vs Norwich City. Was that when Jurgen Klopp broke his glasses?

Well, they could be four down by now as again Ross Barkley arrives inside the area and puts a shot wide. He's had two great chances!

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 27 mins

    Aston Villa 2-0 Liverpool

It's also the first time that Jack Grealish has ever assisted two goals in a Premier League match.

Here come Liverpool again though, they won't be short of belief and Diogo Jota nearly has them right back in the game with a little chip from 20 yards but Emi martinez is on it in a flash and tips it over.

You know what it's been, clinical. Liverpool have created chances but not been clinical but Villa have created the two chances for Ollie Watkins and the one for Ross Barkley and been clinical.

  17. A rare two-goal deficitpublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Aston Villa 2-0 Liverpool

This is only the third time since the start of the 2018-19 season that Liverpool have been two goals down in a PL game (away at Watford in Feb 2020 and July 2020 vs Man City).

Deldude: The look on Jurgen Klopp’s face is what you call BEMUSED. Watkins turned Gomez inside out and aim for the Top corner leaving Adrian no chance.

It's a brilliant finish. Can I take credit for teaching him this when we were at Exeter together? It is a tremendous finish and a brilliant piece of skill.

What a (late) afternoon/evening of Premier League football this is turning into!

Villa had been under the cosh but that's the quality Ollie Watkins has added up top. He's already got a good relationship with Jack Grealish.
